I got my printer in December and immediately put on the 0.2 nozzle and after 500 hours or so of printing awesomely detailed models it clogged itself. I tried a few cold pulls heating it to 300C for a couple minutes but the best I got was a little spurt of new filament through the nozzle before reclogging itself. I have sense threw out the nozzle and want to get another one. Is there something I did wrong? Any suggestions?
For me, the simple cold pull never worked satisfactorily. I always need to do the hot hex key cold pulls on my X1.
Overheating will just clog the nozzle (again). While moderate temp increases can occasionally help with minor issues, going above its softening temp in the cold end (the part of the hotend above the heating chamber) or even above a materials decomposition temp can not have the desired effect.
I have seen travelling clogs. First, I had heat creep leading to filament abrasion in the extruder. That led to a nozzle clog in the next print. Since I did not clean the extruder but only the nozzle at first, it became a recurrent issue. Especially when I at first only did a simple cold pull, pulling more dirt nack into the extruder. I resolved it by first doing the nozzle (hex key, several times), then the extruder cleaning.
I had the same issue with P1S and was able to solve it by leaving the door open, I am guessing it is due to heat creep. Try putting a fan in front of your printer or putting it in a colder place.
0.2mm nozzles certainly have their uses, but they also correct your life being entirely too trouble free.
I’ve always recommended having at least one spare 0.2mm nozzle at all times, they’re going to clog eventually and you won’t be in a good mood when it happens.
