0.4mm HS hotend clogs

0.4mm Hardened Steel hotend clogs

Hey everyone — we’re one of those families who grabbed a Bambu A1 Combo w/ AMS Lite for Christmas and we’ve been having a blast! We’ve made a few rookie mistakes along the way, but overall it’s been awesome.

  • 0.4 SS hotend prints perfectly.

  • Swapped to 0.4 HS hotend (selected it in the A1 menu).

  • HS prints fine for 2–3 prints, then I get “Failed to extrude… clogged extruder/stuck filament” and the HS hotend is clogged when removed.

  • Swap back to SS → prints normally again (same filament/plate/settings).

Filament: Bambu PLA

Temps: nozzle ~220°C, bed ~65 (sometimes higher)

Note: I have not run flow calibration / full calibration after swapping hotends.

Questions:

  1. Does HS need different PLA temps/settings vs SS on the A1?

  2. Should I run full calibration/flow after hotend swaps?

  3. Common causes on HS (heat creep/retraction/volumetric flow) when SS is fine?

  4. Maybe my filament has moisture?

Any insight and help is much appreciated!

I’m not sure if I understood you correctly. I don’t have an A1, but with the other models, you also need a corresponding HS hot end if you change it on the printer.
