Hello, I am printing a box that has a small red design on 2 of the sides. The other 95% of the box is black.
I understand it needs to purge/flush between color swaps, but I’d assume the amount purged for each color would be similar.
Why is it the amount purged for red is massively larger than black (81g for black, 245 for red). So much so that it claims this print ends up using more red filament than black.
Is this accurate? What am I missing?

What are your flushing volumes for each filament set to? This value is adjustable.
Red = brighter color. It needs to flush more the black out of nozzle to reduce the risk of contaminate of black while printing red.
Black is already plenty dark, tiny bit of red mixed in doesn’t matter much so the flushing volume is much smaller.
The flush volumes are important when you print multicolor or multi-type of material, like HIPS + ABS (HIPS for support interface layer between support structure and the surface right on top of support). You should manually set flushing volumes to eleminate contamination of cross type filaments, especially, the two are the similar shade color like white ABS + white HIPS.
Hmm, interesting. I never changed these values so not sure how they got set or what they should be set to. Is this the reason?

Juat looking at the image, you can save a lot of time and filament if you tweak the model.
You could make the faceplate with the red section slide onto the front of the larger box and print it as a much thinner piece.
Also if the box is turned 90 degrees, there would be much less swapping with the red lines running horrizontally.
May I ask, does your model have red the entire length? (Yet, not see in the screenshot.)

Otherwise, I can’t understand why the prime tower has any red in it (seen in the side)
If the red is only used at the top, with no black on the same layers as the red is found, you can turn off the prime tower as it is not required.
Anytime your model swaps between colours and each colour is the only one on each layer, the prime tower is not required.
@MalcTheOracle - The screenshot showed the red stripes down the entire side of the print.

I thought the prime tower was the model and the model was the prime tower.
I would like to blame alcohol, but I fear it is my ever failing eyesight (one is blind the other down to 70%).
