Well Im currently teaching my second class of 3D Printing.. had 14 students last round, and 11 this time… What Ive noticed MOST often, while using Studio, is the amount of lost work caused by crashes on their PCs.. All using different models of course, Lenovos mostly… All seemingly decent, fresh, and had no issues using PrusaSlicer for 6 months prior… The biggest overall complaint… is the random crashes.. Ive recommended to all to not have more than one instance of Studio open at a time, as the Restore feature [ which doesnt work half the time, ‘missing objects, no longer found ?’ ] will only restore one instance .. Im guilty of having as many as 6-7 open on my machine at once..
Im wondering is there is a alternative to Studio thats as compat, and good enough for the coloring and basic/moderate functions ?? These crashes are destroying hopes for many to complete ANY project.
Have you tried Orca slicer? It forked off of Bambu Studio in 2022 and many people prefer it.
If you are running Windows on you PCs, do a search on this site and you should find the there are a lot of Win Users having problems. I has a Mac and really haven’t had any problems with BS crashing, no matter how many versions of BS I have open.
Rollback the studio version, the latest networking plugin is causing the issue
Yes it’s the network plugin. For the most part this doesn’t “crash the computer” but it does a very good impression of doing so, worst case it will lock it for 10 minutes! This problem has existed for a long time mostly visible on high performance computers but now it seems to be influencing regular machines too. If you have several instances of Bambu Studio open the problem manifests even more. Even Bambu Connect has the same issue, which is interesting as I couldn’t find bambu_networking.dll in in it’s file structure, but maybe the same code is in it’s primary executable. With Bambu Connect the problem is much reduced so what I’ve done is delete bambu_networking.dll and print from Bambu Connect. I’m also going to try running it on a different machine with older CPU architecture which might be impacted less. It’s rumoured the issue is related to split-lock CPU features on modern chips. I have 24 cores but Bambu Studio will lock them all…
Since so many people are having problems now I’m hoping it will force the devs to finally make fixing this a priority. There’s enough evidence and information out there now to get to the bottom of the problem.
