250C purge why?

I’ve had one clogged nozzle because the 250C purge basically cooked the PLA in the nozzle, I had to use a needle and do 4 cold pulls to get all the black gunk out. At least add an option to make the purge configurable please!

I have also experienced this issue once. I do think that 250°C across the board is pretty aggressive. I would think that the filament currently in the nozzle and the one about to be loaded should be automatically considered when determining the purge temperature. It seems like an easy change to implement.

250°C is a “safe” middle-ground temperature where every filament type melts, which is why it’s commonly used for purging. If your PLA is crystallizing inside the nozzle, it could point to a faulty temperature reading—possibly caused by a poorly seated thermistor or misapplied thermal paste from the factory. It shouldn’t be “cooking.” Also, check the silicone sock for any unusual buildup underneath, which I can confirm can throw off the temperature reading as well.

I’ve had my P1P for 2 years and have never experienced a clog, so I might not be the best person to weigh in. That said, I run PLA at 250–260°C for most prints, so I know from experience that the temp is safe. One theory is that because my printer runs 20–60 hours a week and I frequently switch between PLA, PETG, and PC, the nozzle might stay cleaner thanks to the occasional use of higher-temp or more abrasive filaments.
