30% Drop in Earnings after Bambu's Last Point System "Upgrade"

That’s why I’m thinking of opening an Etsy shop to sell prints. Terms are much more clear.

I just look at this as a way to reduce/eliminate costs for this hobby. I’m glad I’m not trying to make a living doing it. Not good enough.

That. A hobby that pays for itself. That’s a hobby my wife can accept.

Same brother  If I can make a few shekels to pay for filament I am all for it.

I do not create, but print regularly. I also take the time to review the model and profile, in words, not just stars. Probably 90% of the time I include photos. This all being said, I receive boost tokens regularly and save them for the models I find to be the best to me. When a model is quite handy to my needs, I will boost twice, ALWAYS! I like when the maker responds or acknowledges, but understand just how busy many of them are, so don’t put much weight in their lack of response to my reviews. Anyway, it seems the more I review, the more Boost Tokens I receive.

Oh gawd I feel so bad for this. I get so overwhelmed so easily though, haha.

To anyone that gives me boost, I’m sorry, but please know that I notice you and greatly appreciate you!

I love seeing people’s makes in particular. There’s been a number of times I go to my dad or friends to make a big deal about some cool make someone did.

No need to feel bad at all. I truly believe most creators appreciate us who appreciate and print their work. Keep on keeping’ on with your creating!

I am new to all of this. Just bought a printer last November.
But I have been making models and have earned points to get gift cards that offset some of my filament purchases.

I too have noticed that the points seem to trickle in now compared to a few months ago.

Maybe take your old models offline. Post them on Thingiverse or Printables or whatever. Which of the other sites are good for users? Do any have points systems like MakerWorld does that allow you to recoup some filament expenses?

But it is also about other things that make me consider leaving.
I don’t like the anti open-source stance Bambu has taken.
I feel leery of their locking down on the firmware and traffic through the cloud.
Their blocking of 3mf / profiles that arent’ their standard library of functions.
(e.g. can’t use a 3rd party slicer or custom filament settings.)
All of this look like a slow march towards a locked/walled-garden with forced pricing structure.

There’s a reason for everything…..If they will steal technology, they will steal points and models. Not to mention these crowdfunding scams. Who do you think is actually collecting these funds?

Below is just the first page of many. Google “ Stratasys sues Bambu Lab” or “Bambu Lab lawsuit” to see who else is has filed lawsuits against BBL. If BBL loses this lawsuit, they will owe hundreds of millions in fines and restitution, and back-royalties and they will lose their patent rights. hasta la vista BBL.

Exhibit D - Exemplary Infringement Evidence for U.S. Patent No. 9,168,698

Subject to its express reservation of rights to supplement or amend its contentions as may be appropriate in view of discovery, further investigation, and/or the claim construction process, Plaintiff Stratasys, Inc. (“Plaintiff” or “Stratasys”) provides its preliminary disclosure of asserted claims and infringement contentions to Shenzhen Tuozhu Technology Co., Ltd., Shanghai Lunkuo Technology Co., Ltd., Bambulab Limited and Tuozhu Technology Limited (collectively, “Defendants” or “Bambu Lab”), pursuant to the Court’s

Scheduling Order, D.I. 20; the Court’s October 30, 2024 Order extending the time to comply with P.R. 3-1, 3-2, 3-3, and 3-4, D.I. 22; and P.R. 3-1. Nothing in these contentions should be interpreted as an admission or concession regarding the scope of the asserted claims.

Disclosure of Asserted Claims for U.S. Patent No. 9,168,698 (“the ’698 Patent”) under P.R. 3-1(a): Claims 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 8, 9, 10, 12, and 15.

Disclosure of Accused Instrumentalities for the ’698 Patent under P.R. 3-1(b): For each of the Asserted Claims, all Bambu Lab branded or manufactured three-dimensional (3-D) printers with sensors for detecting force, including but not limited to the Bambu Lab A1 and Bambu Lab A1 mini printers, alone or in combination with Bambu Lab software, such as Bambu Studio or Bambu Handy, and all Bambu Lab Parts.

Bambu Lab has not yet produced any discovery. Based on information available to-date, the Bambu Lab A1 and A1 mini have no material differences relevant to these infringement contentions. See (link removed) (comparing A1 and A1 mini upon selection). The A1 includes several upgrades over the A1 mini, including a larger build volume, higher max build plate temperature, and larger display. Id. Accordingly, references to components or functionality of either the A1 or A1 mini in this chart—other than the larger build volume, higher max build plate temperature, and larger display—apply to both printers.

Disclosure of Priority Date under P.R. 3-1(e): The asserted claims of the ’698 Patent are each entitled to a priority date of at least as early as October 29, 2013.

Disclosures under P.R. 3-1(c)-(d): Stratasys identifies in the chart below specifically where each element of each Asserted Claim is found within each Accused Instrumentality.

Disclosure under P.R. 3-1(f): At this time, Stratasys does not intend to rely on the assertion that its own products or other instrumentalities practice the claimed invention. Stratasys reserves the right to amend and/or supplement this disclosure as discovery progresses.

It is the comments, the five star ratings, and boosts that keeps me going, that let me know that what I am creating is appreciated. I am particularly moved by those who include pictures and tell how, for instance, they printed it with their child, or how the model brought back fond memories.

This in a nutshell has a lot to do with why I think that open-source has become a cult full of people who were never praised for their intelligence. You start by telling us how you have made models and earned points to pay for your filament. Then you go on to condemn Bambu for using the cloud when the cloud is how they keep track of what is being printed so that you can get points to get gift cards to get more filament.

I mean thats an old lawsuit and its just Stratasys trying to flex its muscles because they know people aren’t going to use super locked down industrial machines when they can just build a farm of cheaper machines

The thing about patents is they don’t automatically mean you win as patents can be overturned if they are found to be trying to patent something obvious or too simple, so i imagine the outcome of this lawsuit is that Stratasys’ portfolio gets a bit smaller

When Stratasys first filed their lawsuit was about the time that the X1 was making serious inroads into the rapid prototyping market. What start-up wants to spend $30,000 on a Stratasys when a $2500 X1 worked just fine?

It seems to me that some of these lawsuits will end in the same manner that many of the songwriting lawsuits have been thrown out. That is that you can’t copyright the fundamentals of music.

In science it has been recognized that if all knowledge of the laws of nature were to be lost, that they could all be rediscovered by different people. Calculus was discovered by at least three different individuals working independently from each other. A lot of the experiments that college students are asked to perform are designed for the student to discover the laws of nature for themselves.

Engineering is similar in that students are given knowledge and a set of tools, and once hired as an engineer, are expected to use that knowledge and set of tools to solve problems. It is not surprising to see two or more different sets of engineers arrive at similar results. Afterall the laws of nature and engineering fundamentals are universal.

I have said all along that the A1 tends to make higher quality prints than the P1 or X1. It has something to do with the pressure control and flow rate mechanism in the A1 head. I think the A1 tends to print small multicolored prints with a higher surface quality than the other printers. This seems to be a point of contention in the Stratasys lawsuit. It just may be that the engineers at Bambu just happened to come upon a similar solution completely independent of anything Stratasys has done.

Well, in terms of lawsuits, it’s not that old. Most lawsuits like this take years and this one is not even 2 years into it. Additionally, there has been a lot of recent new filings on this case including BBL’s most recent motion to dismiss which was denied by the court. This is no small case and it’s not going away. Especially with all the focus on immoral business practices of the Chinese people. You have to consider the USA’s aggressive stance towards China’s business practices. I think BBL sees the writing on the wall and that’s why they’re dumping their inventory on sites like eBay. Check eBay, they are selling the H2D with AMS combo and Laser Module for $388.00, brand new, sealed in the box and there are lots of them available. looks like a pre-judgement liquidation to me.

Your point on locked down machines is valid as well, but what it validates is BBL’s immoral business practices. Everyone is pissed about this and their numbers show it. It also puts them in the spotlight for future lawsuits. This is not nearly over and there are several new lawsuits filed recently.

We can argue about the outcome of the lawsuits all day, what can’t be argued about is BBL’s obvious immoral business practices and apparent dishonesty which will sooner, if not later, result in BBLs failure. The USA is different now. No more taking advantage of the American people thanks to the Trump Administration and the DOJ taking action. BBL is already on the radar so it’s not a matter of if, but rather when.

I mean i admire your dedication to the bit but i don’t think we’re living in the same reality, you can dislike how bambu operates all you like but at least base it in reality

cheapest one I can find on Ebay.

From a seller with zero ratings, located in China, and a brand new account. Totally not a scam.

Have we not been watching the same clown show? I followed the news during the summit in China, one side was roundly rebuffed, looked down upon and insulted to its face. You complain about immoral business practices while hero worshiping a life long criminal. All the while as the DOJ is infamously engaging in a coverup of one of the greatest moral failings in the history of the Untied States. You must be so proud.

Lets just keep politics out of it unless you can make an educated/supported comment that directly relates to the topic.
