3D effect sticker sheets are impossible to use

Hi,

I purchased bambu lab 3D effect sticker sheets. But impossible to use them as nothing sticks on them. I could not do a single print without a spaghetti failure on the first layer.
The sheets are new and totally clean.
I tried with Bambu lab PLA, PLA matte and PETG. None of it works.
What a waste and shame of Bambu lab to sell such useless product.
Furthermore, there are no QR code stckers delivered with them so you get a plate detection error.

I do not advide buying those, stay away from it !

Note

  1. The 3D Effect Sheets don’t come pre-applied on the steel plate. Manual installation is required before use. You can apply the sheet on each side of the steel plate.

  2. For best results, we recommend applying the Bambu 3D Effect Sheets only on the official steel plate from Bambu Lab.

  3. Bambu Engineering Plate (the other side of Bambu Cool Plate/High Temp Plate) can also be used for applying the Bambu 3D Effect Sheets. If you plan to apply a 3D Effect Sheet on an existing plate, ensure that you remove the previous sheet and clean any glue residue completely, before installing the 3D Effect Sheet. Make sure the surface is dry and clean before the application.

  4. Please set the Plate Type to Smooth PEI/High Temp Plate and carefully follow the Heatbed Recommended Settings when using the Bambu 3D Effect Sheets.

  5. The 3D effect patterns require a clean surface to remain visible. Grease can cause the patterns to disappear. It is essential to keep the surface clean. We recommend using hot water and detergent for cleaning, and avoid touching the surface.

Considerations

  1. Due to reflections, the LIDAR calibration will not work as expected when using Effect Sheets. We recommend skipping the LIDAR calibration sequence, or calibrating with a regular plate.

  2. The 3D Effect Sheets are considered consumables. To prolong the lifespan of the transfer textures, try placing your print objects on different areas of the sheet.

  3. Do not apply glue to the sheet surface.

  4. Pay close attention when using a scraper to remove prints, to avoid damaging the sheet surface.

And since that is somewhat confusing and I can’t find a wiki:

  1. Use he ā€˜Smooth PEI / High Temp Plate’ type setting.
  2. Turn off the device options ā€˜enable detection of build plate’ and ā€˜first layer inspection’
  3. Turn off flow dynamics calibration when printing:

Did you clean it thoroughly with soap and hot water?

I did all that to no avail

Are you using something other than PLA? You won’t have good luck with PETG and other filaments afaik.

I’m using the Bambu lab PLA (and tried the Bambu lab PETG too)

Yeah that’s funky, I’ve used it for PLA about 100 times and never had a single issue. I could only imagine an issue if the filament is wet or a major step I listed above is missing (like +10C to the bed temp).

My filament is in the AMS and new with a 20% humidity (level 1 in AMS sensor indicator)

I think the problem is that without a sticker on the plate indicating to the machine that it is a Smooth PEI plate, the machine does not use the right settings, even if you disable the plate detection (and even selecting the smooth plate in the preparation phase). I’m doing a test right now with the QR code I printed and glued to the right place and guess what : it is now working…

Bambulab should listen and provide QR stickers with their 3D effect sheets

All the QR does is verify the plate on the bed is the same as selected in the print profile.

I can just say what I experience : without a QR, every single print fails (eventhough I selected smooth PEI plate and I disable plate detection), while if a QR code is present it works flawlessly. I can’t explain why and I don’t really care as long as it keeps working now !

Hey hopefully someone can help me here too. Im having trouble using the official carbon fiber 3d sheet. Just got mine, it seems to come with the QR code marker now. Either way I just cant get my first layer small details to stick. They just wont adhere to the bed and blob on the nozzle which makes subsequent parts also not stick. Ive washed the plate twice thoroughly with dish soap and a brush, dried with paper towels. Same I do on my smooth PEI sheet where that works perfectly fine. Tried bed temp at 60 and also at 65c, tried with and without the lidar calibration, and lastly slowing the first layer way down. But nothing is making it stick properly. You can see in my image (apparently I cant upload an image or add links, so here is not a "link "to what I’m trying to print https: // makerworld .com/en/models/449583#profileId-356458) the small details like text or the arrows just not adhering. Anyone have some tips for me on what to do as I’m at a loss after many hours of multiple failed first layers.

Whenever I had that issue I had either forgotten to set the plate as smooth PEI, accidentally kept bed levelling on or forgotten to adjust the temp on the Smooth PEI (you could try 5°C more on the bed and 5-10°C more on the nozzle for the first layer only).
I always wash my effect plates before my first print since they are rather sensitive.

PS: I use a soft sponge or cloth on the effect sheets rather than a brush though. I don’t want to risk scratching it.

I am using the smooth high temp plate setting. Ill try upping the nozzle temp and washing with a brush tomorrow. Thank you for the suggestions.

For me, the key was to increase the temperature 10C. I printed using both PLA basic and PLA-CF.

Just received mine and ran into same issue - Increasing the bed temp was the key for me it looks like so far. Here’s Hoping.
Also, my plate came with the Qr code as well as the print already on both sides of the plate which was nice (it has a film you need to peel off - and I did that before printing :wink: ).

I could get ABS and ASA to work with the effect plate, but you must use a .2mm or .4mm MAX. Once you go above to .6mm+ you’ll NEVER get it to stick. Oh and I’m on a P1S. Also preheat the chamber as always for ABS/ASA by setting the bed to top temp for about 10 mins. I also use a weighted blanket and the AMS on top of the P1s to counter the shake rattle and roll. I swear the springy looking feet they sell as stabalizers cause more problems. Instead I get weight on the top of the unit.

Oh and the weighted blanked also helps insulate the chamber to keep the heat in for ABS/ASA

So I’ve tried a lot of the steps here and have had great success with the following, and only marginal success with other things:

-right before print and every time, wash plate with dish soap, dry with clean cloth and do not touch, immediately use
-pre-heat bed before print to 55c, set bed temp for print at 55c
-start first layer at 30mm/s and run first layer in ā€œsilentā€ mode, giving you the slowest first layer

this method has worked for me every time (with PLA)
