3D Plate and P2S : Is it ok?

Hello all here :slight_smile:

I read that the actual dual-texture product :

The older 256mm×256mm build plate does not support the build plate type detection feature available on 2nd Gen machines (P2S and future models).

I wonder if it’s the same for the 3D Effect Plate?
Has someone tried?

I have one of the first batches of these 3D Effect Build Plates (4 Sticker with one steal plate) and my P2S do not auto detect it but you can print on them.

Thanks for your reply. It’s then the same as the Cool Plate. The QR is not detected :slight_smile:

Hi everyone,
It turns out I accidentally ordered a textured plate for the P1 series, so the automatic recognition via QR code doesn’t work. However, besides that, it seems that the automatic first layer calibration also doesn’t work correctly with this plate. So far, I haven’t been able to get a proper first layer. It looks like I’ll need to create a separate profile with a reduced Z-offset.

Hello. I ordered on Aliexpress these 3D plate effect and I am not able to print on it. I disabled automatic detection of plate, selected the Smooth PEI Plate and tried to increase the bed temperature to 60-65°C for PLA but the filament does not stick to the plate. Of course I cleaned well the plate before.

Any idea to help me ? thank you

Have you tried using glue?

Not yet. If possible without, I think it is better no ?
I was able to print now on them using the following settings :

  • First layer speed to be reduced: 30 mm/s + infill
  • First layer PLA filament: 230°C
  • First layer bed temperature: 65°C
  • No fan for first layer

I added this gcode

; filament start gcode
; lower the nozzle if PEI textured plate
;curr_bed_type={curr_bed_type}
{if curr_bed_type=="Textured PEI Plate"}
G29.1 Z{-0.04} for Textured PEI Plate
{endif }

It is not perfect but it is working for majority of cases I tested.
I have less or no problem with the carbon look because the plate is not really smooth like others

My problem is different- printing on one of these 3d plates on my P2S, I turned off the detection, but my 227X by 158Y by 6mm Z project only prints about 6mm X by 158 mm Y by 6.5mm Z ! What is this??? why can I not print anything more than 6MM in the X direction?

nah, use glue always, any plate… both for adhesion and plate longevity. :slight_smile: In Czechia, 3D LAC (spray-on) is very popular and works really great.
