3MF vs STL files

Yep. I should have known better than to speak in generalities. I edited my post to explicitly say that and single color printers can do multicolor with some fiddling.

But as one who came from a single color printer, until I got the Bambu with AMS this place wasn’t worth my time because so many prints here were out of reach. I was speaking from my own experience which obviously may not jibe with other folks’ preferences. For me this wasn’t a great place until I could print and learn from the people who print in color.

I’m out.

Yes, the pause is cool. I’ve been using it to embed magnets.

It will auto-detect.

I’ve already done it. But thanks. Chinese.

Sorry to zombiefy an old posting (yes to the bot, I really want to revive this topic)
But to me this was a pretty good explaination of 3mf contents and I at least found it interesting. Just ignore that is related to 360 unless you use it.

Fusion 360 - Save as STL is gone!
I don’t upload files to MW or anywhere else and compared to other posters here my knowledge (to use a techie term) is zilch.
I agree that posting multiple formats (stl, 3mf…) is the option I would prefer when downlloading.

I’m not sure I’ll ever upload any more models to MakerWorld or anywhere else. It takes my time and there’s nothing in it for me as far as I can tell.

The community has helped you along your journey so perhaps it’s best to look at sharing your models as “giving back” to the community instead of what you will get from it.

It’s still there for me. 123…

Yeah, that was just the click bait title of the YT vid. I probably should have mentioned that.
On mine it (stl) only shows up under export, but it could be I’m not holding my solid or mesh right.
Thanks

Good point! I would never fail to share any of my designs (though that sounds too grand) with anyone on the forum. I was trying to say was that I don’t see any realistic probability of being rewarded by BBL for helping them build an attraction site for the 3D community. As far as I can tell it would take many, many model uploads to get six inches of filament.

So, I am seeing files with a “.3mf.stl” extension. What is the significance of this file extension and how should it be treated?

Try removing one of the two extensions and seeing if it still loads; if it doesn’t try the other.

That said its likely just an exported stl from a 3mf file.

Seems you are correct. The 3mf extension would not load, but the stl extension did. Thanks for the feedback.

I know it’s been a while and maybe you already know this, but Fusion will export as STL. Save as mesh > see dialogue box > change print utility option to ‘export’ > choose desktop or whatever > see STL file.
