3rd party models, print profile?

Hey,

noob here
I found quite a few interesting models from other website like printable.

I’m not sure how i can share my findings and print profile on makerworld as it’s not an original.

Adding a print profile to a bare STL could be seen as a remix if correctly mentioned and if the license allows.
But is it seens as such by makerworld?

I’m not sure what’s the correct way to proceed to share a print profile

Step one would be to ask the designer if its ok? I mean unless its public domain or something it is owned by someone…

If you have permission you just use the upload button on the Makerworld website:

I would first wonder if the creator allows this sort of ‘sharing’ and if it is ok to just take their models.
If so you can then load the model in Studio, slice it, print it, take the required pics and post with CREDITS GIVEN to the original creator.
Anything below that is just stealing and against the rules

You are not really trying to share a print profile, you are sharing a model that is not yours.
Uploading just the slicer settings for a model, especially if the model is hosted elsewhere does not work I think…

Thanks both for your reply

once you upload it asks you if it’s an original or a remix.
Ofc i need to check the license… but let say, this for example

Modular Tape Dispenser by PrintRPro | Download free STL model | Printables.com => CC-by-sa… i think i’m allowed to reshare that, and create something like a profile based on it,
thus should i upload that as a remix? original ? (both with attribution)
or not upload at all?

I do not like people taking someone else’s work and placing it where they want to see it.

Even if the licence allows it.

For me, that is always the choice of the original designer. My thoughts boil down to this.

If I wanted my work on MakerWorld I would have added it there.

You may say…

People on MakerWorld do not know it exists.

I would argue…

You did, why couldn’t someone else?

The other issue, which is most often the reason people decide to take the work of others…

Points

You would be profiting off the work of others for very little effort on your behalf and I find that distasteful.

Others will have other views, that is mine.

I would strongly suggest you learn to make models of your own. You will discover that YOUR efforts are rewarded when other people download each and enjoy them

Thanks

i agree that the system is kinda flawed here… even if i don’t want the points, i can’t really do anything…
each printer vendor have his own site with own model & profiles, not sure everyone want’s to create many accounts giving his data & models to each one of them…

but as far i understand the licence allows it, makeworld it’s not that clear …
Yes i’m designing my own piece, but the whole point of makerworld is to find model that can help you

i don’t want to rip someone else points or anything … creating a good profile is a work in itself. (that could be rewarded differently if bambu wanted to  )

Most of the other sites do not require any login details.

Concentrate on making your models worthy of downloading and you will find far greater satisfaction.
