I have recently set up my 40w laser head. Using the samples provided I was able to add my companies logo and test it out. I then tried it on a few usb jump drive as a test and those seemed to work out well.
A couple of days later I tried it again with some new jump drives and noticed the Y axis appears to be off. I printed a holder for the usbs to make sure alignment is good between pieces.
I noticed that the printer uses the birds eye view camera as the one to take a picture of the parts. Being that the camera is above the door it is on an angle. So I see why it may be offset. I just don’t understand what changed though as it worked before and why they don’t use the camera mounted to the laser as a positioning camera in the start as it would be the most directly above a piece you could get.
I was wondering if anyone might have any ideas as to why it my be off.
I have attached 2 photos. One showing where the keyring is as to show how offset I needed to drop the image. The second showing that same offset overlaid where the laser actually etched.
Flat out, the birds eye cam for precision locating of work is always going to be off.
I etched a 10mm grid onto my build plate to get a reliable match of 0,0 on the plate to 0,0 in the software and position my workpieces off that reference.
Locating workpieces off the toolhead would be much more slow, but at least dead reliable.

So I have printed a material holder so I could do multiple usb in 1 one. You’re saying I should etch a grid on to that holder and then run a test piece to essentially show what my offset actually is?
It makes sense, but seems like something Bambu needs to work on.
Important step in the process is to first measure the height of your part.
Based on that measurement, the image from the birds eye camera is being offset. Not super accurate, but it should compensate most of the offset.
If that doesn’t help, you might consider to re-calibrate the birds eye camera.
Not super accurate is the critical difference for centering work onto the round tags and other pieces that are not cut out of larger stock in a single job.
Im not criticizing you, but pointing out that bambu sells tags that you literally cannot reliably center art onto with the supplied toolchain.
I didn’t get offsets as shown here on my jobs. But then again it also depends on how close your design is to the edges of the object.
If you want a very small border all around, the positioning of the image onto the part is becoming very critical and the bird’s eye view camera might not be accurate enough.
Definitely not when you have spread them all around the build plate.
The center front location is the most accurate location on the build plate. The more you are going towards the side and the rear, the bigger the deviation if the height is incorrect.
Therefore measuring the correct height is crucial in the process.
Every time you change the height, you see the image shift underneath, because it’s compensating the skew of the camera image.
If you want more accurate positioning, you can use the 3D meshing mode.
That one is using the lidar on the laser head (it’s not a camera afaik) to scan the object in 3D.
This 3D image of the object might help to align the image better onto your part.
A fixture and test piece is always very useful in these cases of course.
If the offset suddenly changed, you might want to check if the BEV camera is firmly attached and can’t move.
The slightest movement is enough to cause the kind of deviations.
If so, the BEV camera re-calibration will definitely help.
There is a downward facing toolhead camera (not on the laser) that is used for the cutting module’s print and cut registration mark detection and the motion calibration plate detection. Thats the one that would be ideal for high precision object detection and work orientation in the software if we had the option.
Just did a little engraving on my printer, and below the deviation between the text and the real engraving.
This is engraved a little bit to the left of the center and about 80mm away from the front.
This deviation is very acceptable in my opinion.
Can you elaborate on this a bit more? Same issues. Y is way off. Even with target measuring and recapturing an image. I understand the grid and aligning, etc. Pretty fewsh with Bambu suite. Does it allow you to move object precisionally in tbe software?
