Let me preface by saying I don’t think this is a hardware issue but rather my settings. I just finished printing this awesome modular desk riser shelf - I tried it in both ABS and PLA. My issue is that the legs that print upward skew outward and are not square with with the horizontal bottom part. My device isn’t letting me upload pictures but I’ll try to edit the post when I get home.
But long story short, picture a capital “L” where the vertical part of the L is leaning left outwards. I don’t see warping in the classical sense of the edges lifting off the build plate but maybe I just can’t see it?
I’ve tried:
ABS and then PLA to rule out ABS being finicky
Re calibrating all of my printer and using motion accuracy calibration
Factory defaults and fresh calibration
Re-tramming the bed
Washing the build plate and trying another build plate
Considering they are kind of long and thin parts of the object, is this just a hurdle of FDM printing?
it seem like its zy zx skew if you can run a vector3d calilantern and it will show you youre xy slew as well as the zy zx skew you will have to tram the bed a bit to compensate as there is no software copensation for zy zx skew just xy. there is a thread here talking about this very thing
Thanks so much, this is very helpful! I was struggling finding the right things to search. So I just bought a dial indicator to redo the tram and get it as precise as possible, but before I do that, you mean I actually need to intentionally need to offset the bed? I’m assuming if that’s the case I’ll need a dial indicator more than ever to get the numbers right.
Starting to search for that model right now and will print it. I’ll keep everyone posted with my results. If that is a hardware thing, that is pretty disappointing for a flagship machine.
Alright did my test! I’m assuming for results this bad, I had to have messed up my print settings or caliper measurements. Will try again… curious what others have though.
Hey thanks for chiming in! I guess I haven’t ran actual skew tests before and assumed the worst. Sounds like all of the “bad” ones are because Calilantern are incredibly strict for those trying to get things perfect?
Anyways I’m assuming in that case for roughly .60mm that the skew probably isn’t the source of my issues. It’s pretty visible on the models I’m printing. I’m trying to get good images but it’s hard to capture the leaning vertical wall in an image. I’m wondering maybe it’s the model design and the walls aren’t resilient to hold it at a straight 90 degree angle.

EDIT - forgot to mention, I’m going to try a bed tram for fun now that I have a dial indicator - curious to see my results after even if it isn’t the source of my issues.
You probably don’t need to concern yourself with skew adjustments this small unless you are doing it as a learning exercise which I applaud. That’s half the fun with this as a hobby. It’s unfortunate that Bambu has decided not to expose the bed mesh like other vendors do. Also, FDM printers do not have the same level of accuracy you would expect from a CNC machine. Not only do you have to account for the physical properties of the plastic you are printing but even the color has to be considered.
With the bed tramming exercise don’t try to over-adjust. One rabbit hole you can fall into is chasing measurement error with adjustments.
One quick diagnostic if you want to keep digging: print the part rotated 90° on the plate. If the lean rotates with the part, it’s the model or slicer settings, probably a pressure advance bulge or cooling on the thin vertical. If the lean stays pointed the same direction on the bed, it’s mechanical and worth pursuing further.
