we are overwhelmed by AI design. Not that AI is not usefull, I made many things with this help too.
But a thing that is really disturbing is when people do not clearly state that is something created with AI. Often, as a workaround for the rule to have at least a photo with a real print, they create a fake photo with a printed object, in a house environment, to avoid the problem.
It’s easy to identify a AI model, just preview the model, zoom on a line and, if is straight and clean, is human-made, if is just a bunch of triangles is AI.
So, what do you think about an option, when we upload a model, that say “No AI used”, not only from Bambulab Labs, but from everywhere. If you say no AI a nice badge appears on the cover and you can put the option to choose no-AI in search, so we can filter all the models.
And, if someone publish a model with the tag but it’s fake, we can report the model.
I think that the AI models are the ones that should be labelled.
Printables has been doing this for years, seems to be working for them. This has been recommended to MW in this Forum at least 30 times. I have little to no faith that it will ever happen.
The problem for me isnt AI models, its the AI images, I am tired of having to print a model to see what it looks like in real life, Not real fond of the real images with fancy photography either, I have pretty much just resigned myself to “print it and see what it looks like” and then give a 5 star rating whether its good or not because everyone gets pissed if you give less than 5 stars.
Hi.
I think that is better an active action to state that a model is not made with AI. You cannot “forget” to say that is AI because you forget the tag. Is an active choice, so is an active action.
Not true. If I make a box you’ll see no triangles on it. Just straight lines.AI do not create, by now, straight lines, just a bunch of triangles. An AI can learn how to identify AI-made pieces with very few errors.
Anyway, you can identify an AI model just with preview and zoom.
Correct, the AI images are a big problem. Anyway, as I’ve said before, preview, zoom, check for lines, angles or triangles and it’s easy to discover if is AI or human-made. Even without a download.
The problem isnt that it is a AI image, the problem is you have no idea what the print looks like until after you waste filament, time, Jack Daniels, blood, electricity …. printing it just to find out it isnt the same as the cover image that made me waste my time in the first place.
I’m not an expert, but I’m pretty sure that almost every model has triangles and lines, ai or not. You can find models from 2015 that have ‘em. Even benchy has some! That’s basically how 3d models work. Anything remotely round will have them.
All models are made of triangles because that’s the only way a GPU processes them
Whatever you’re opening your 3D model in may be rendering it like the first image but what it is in reality is the below image, two triangles per face/poly, I’m afraid that is the only way all GPU architectures understand three dimensions
You can demonstrate this by viewing by mesh in multiple different programs, some consumer programs like Blender or nearly every Slicer will happily flatten two tris to display it as one face to make things easier to view for the person looking at it
Just a humble note - I have nothing against the idea of labeling AI models, but if there’s going to be a new badge, it should label “AI models” and not “non-AI models” as was proposed.
Reason: Even now, cover photos often contain several badges (Parametric, Exclusive, Contest, etc.), and that already limits the space available for the model itself. Add a few more new badges, and you won’t be able to see anything at all.
If you sculpt something without any topology cleanup. Then it most likely going look worse than AI. Maybe Ai will be more uniform who knows. but… its very hit and miss trying to guess like that if ai or not and you will receive lot of false reports.
