A remix and a copyright claim

I hit the Copyright Claim button for a model which I’m certain is a remix of my model which has a standard digital file license. I uploaded photos of both models and thought it would be relatively safe to say the remixed model would be taken down.

I was wrong and the copyright claim was rejected. I tried again with better photos to show the similarities and it was rejected again.

Would this be just a pointless exercise and there’s really no way to stop anyone on makerworld copying your design and making it their own?

Here’s my model: Pegboard Tape Holder Screwed & Skadis Mount by maxv - MakerWorld

and the remix: Tape Storage Stand by stephengmail - MakerWorld

Yes, these are definitely two and the same models. Luckily you have it as an “exclusive model” so you are granted the full support and legal backing of MakerWorld. At least that is what they promised, or was the exclusive program just a way to create an online monopoly in the end? Nah…

I have had successes and misses with overlaying two models to show that they are the exact geometry and/or remixed from each other. In the end it doesn’t seem that MakerWorld really care, to them more models is more money. Stolen or not. So I won’t get my hopes up…

It is even obvious from the description that even the uploader doesn’t know why he left those holes in…

I would send in a second ticket and try again with for instance an overlaid image. And then just wait and hope

This one was initially rejected, even the snout of the original octopus is still visible!

Only after putting in a second ticket when I discovered that the logo (!!!) of the original creator was still in the model, the copyright strike was accepted:

But in the end, it is futile… MakerWorld doesn’t care… Models=money

These were some of my efforts to protect other designers from other websites, I hope they will acknowledge you more since it is YOUR model on MW with exclusivity. But still, it is putting the effort in and hoping…

Thanks for the tip with the overlaid image, I certainly will try again.
