A1 Extruder Clicking with No Resolution

Hey there!

I need help with my A1 printer. I haven’t been able to successfully print anything with my Bambu A1 printer that I bought in 2023 and it is due to a clicking in the extruder. I believe it’s attempting to feed the filament but for some reason it’s unable to do so, and if I do a test print, then the filament line skips whenever it clicks.

I have checked for clogs, but the filament still feeds to a degree.

I have removed the tool head cap and nozzle and tested the filament feed through the extruder, and there’s no clicking or issues there.

I bought a new 0.4 hardened steel nozzle just to make sure it wasn’t that and still it clicks as soon as I try printing with it assembled.

The maintenance settings are set to the new printer head since I was using a stainless steel nozzle and decided to purchase a hardened steel one when the clicking first began with the stainless steel one.

It feeds for a couple of seconds then clicks, feeds then clicks.

I don’t believe there is any filament in the gears because, without the nozzle head, there is no clicking or problem with the traction or anything noticeable.

I use Bambu filament, nozzles, build plates, everything. I haven’t manually altered anything within the printer settings aside from changing the nozzle head settings when appropriate.

Clicking = clog or jam

Mine was doing this (including the clicking) and it turned out the those 4 screws behind the hotend heater were loose. See step 2 here A1 Series First Layer Print Issues - First Layer Too Low, Hotend Moving | Bambu Lab Wiki

So, it’s clicking -and backdriving-? No filament actually coming out of the nozzle during the clicking and backdriving?

Check those screws on the back of the hotend heating assembly to make sure it stays aligned + is able to level. If its REALLY untight the filament wont even enter the mouth of this part, gets stuck on the rim. If its just a little untight, it will make your printer level so close to the bed its scraping, and that can make the first layer click and backdrive - trying to push mroe plastic than is physically able to fit in that space
