Almost 8 months ago my mum told me she would like to get into 3D printing. We bought the Bambulab A1 and so far we’re all still excited and happy … but we have a popup dialog every time we load filament.
Right now we are manually loading filaments because we don’t have any AMS yet. When we load filament the printer always asks if filament was extruded (Code: 12FF-8007 172801). Sometimes we have to click “Not Extruded Yet, Retry” once, other times we had had to click this 2-3 times.
Since there was no indication this is a warning/error I thought okay, it’s just part of the process. Today I had Bambu Studio opened when we changed filament and we got the same message but with a title “Warning”.
When we first had this and we only looked at the printers screen, I researched the error code and for me it looks like this code is used for multiple warnings/errors. So my research wasn’t quite successful.
I already unloaded the nozzle and made sure it’s clean. Then I also disassembled the filament hub to make sure it’s clean as well.
Yes, that’s normal when changing the filament. You always have to push slightly until the filament starts to come out. The error message or warning is normal once or twice. However, if it happens several times in a row, then you should check whether there is a problem.
Beginners, in particular, tend to be overly cautious here. You need to push the filament in firmly. Don’t use force, but do maintain pressure. That’s just what AMS does automatically. If you don’t have one, then you have to push. - Of course, only until filament comes out and the message disappears.
While you’re at it, print out some filament clips - they’re important. If you release the filament while changing it or fail to maintain tension on the roll, the tension may be too low. The second most common mistake made by beginners when changing filament is letting go and allowing it to lie too loosely on the spool.
thanks for the advice. So far we used Bambulab PLA and eSUN PLA. On both Bambulab Spools we had a filament locking up especially the outer circles. So we thought it might help making sure its more loose on the spool. Seems like we made the first rookie mistake
I never understood why people use filament clips but to be honest, I just learned about them like a week ago.
I’ll try loading the filament and while loading gently pushing. I”ll report back how it’s going. Since the printer is my mum’s I’ll let her know and try this myself the next time I’m visiting her.
