A1 may have broken itself

The other morning, I woke up to find that the nozzle was completely encased in a giant blob of plastic. After I cleaned it off, it seemed like it was okay, but 8 out of my last 10 prints have failed. More specifically, the first 10-50 layers or so print completely fine, but eventually, it turns into a complete mess of spaghetti. It’s theoretically possible that these events are unrelated, but I doubt it. I suspect I should probably replace at least the nozzle, but I’m wondering what else I might need to replace from this?

Also, I thought the printer was supposed to have failure detection, but it didn’t detect the original disaster, nor the 8 recent failed prints.

Some additional info that may help: I bought the A1 with the AMS in December, and I haven’t replaced anything, so I have all the standard parts that come with it, and I tried both the Bambu lab PLA and Prusament PLA. I clean the plate with IPA before every print, and I clean it with dish soap weekly. Unfortunately, I didn’t think to take a photo of the original disaster, but I have the file of the model that caused it, which I attached a screenshot of here because I bought the model, so I don’t want to cause problems by sharing the model. I needed two of these pieces, and the first printed with no issue.

(Sorry if my terminology and knowledge are poor, I’m a beginner.)

A couple things I can add:

  1. That model looks difficult for the A1 on its normal stock [fast] speeds - Tall and narrow and wants to flap around when the Y plate moves, and only gets its support attached in a meaningful way up at the top. I’d reduce speeds greatly [try silent mode as a first attempt and know that you can do better in the slicer]

  2. Giant blobs are a rite of passage (lol) but yours might have impacted other stuff. In general you can usually clean and recover everything except broken wires and shattered housings. Bambu has a wiki on it specifically but it sounds like youve done the reading. If the first few layers go down fine [no fan expected] and the next ones do not [fan expected] then maybe you can check with your finger to ensure that the part cooling fan is ACTUALLY running - it could have been damaged in the blob. It also could have bent the nozzle, which you can visually assess if you take it off and hold it to a straightedge.

  3. I think that model could be more printable on the a1 if you do 2 things - rotate it 90degrees so its flat long side that has bed contact is running along the Y axis, creating a more solid footing to the direction its experiencing force – and add a brim. Maybe even go as far as to paint a small dot of “support painting” on the thing’s middle just so it gets more legs on it while its getting tall
