A1 Mini having a major meltdown dicky fit

Have an A1 Mini, no combo, that’s done 160 hrs and now when doing prints I’ve occasionally been getting a message that the filament cutter is stuck (which it isn’t). I’ve done a little searching and decided to change the filament sensor and base as these seem to be the main culprit, and all seemed good for about three prints and now I’m getting the message again, but this time was lucky enough to be in the shed when it happened and caught this happening… meltdown or what… any ideas? My other mini has done 8000 hrs and never had this or anything close…

To me, it looks like the printer is having trouble determining its position. That’s why it doesn’t recognize when it reaches the end of the filament spool. The speed is clearly too high. I wouldn’t say it’s slamming into the end, but it’s pretty close.

And not just the axle with the print head, but also the printer plate.

Maybe the circuit board with the encoder is defective. But not all the time, either - otherwise he wouldn’t have printed out part of the object. Maybe it’s a loose connection.

I dont have a mini, but those speeds and thwacking seem excessive. Send a ticket to support anyways I’d like to hear what they have to say!

IMO Factory reset it, in addition to what Retro said about loose connections.

What I captured on the video wasn’t the worst of it. It prints perfectly on one print, print the same model again and halfway through all ■■■■ breaks loose and that’s not an exaggeration it’s extremely noisy and it sounds like one of the motors is try to rotate but the head wont move so it squeals. It’s hard to describe because you can’t imagine that a little printer could make so much noise :grimacing: Also why say the cutter is jammed when it’s a single color print that’s still printing…

This is definitely a case for technical support. Even though it’s frustrating, any further use of the printer would likely cause much more serious damage.

Sent a ticket to see what they say as it’s quite a new printer, I’ll post an update on the reply when I receive it…

I also agree to probably not print again with it lest it damage itself. But when you were testing, did those failures all happen at certain z heights or certain time spent printing? Such things would be really helpful to put on the ticket.

In a word no, they were all different print times heights and models. Think there’s something seriously wrong because when it happens it’s like it’s been hacked it just goes crazy, it’s like it moves really fast to one side and just wants to keep going as if it doesn’t know it’s at the end but usually at the cutter end.

For those that are interested, I sent over the log files for the prints that went a bit crazy (technical term) and I’ve had a reply from support and because I’ve already changed the filament sensor and base they’re sending me a replacement TH board. Have to say I’m happy with the quick response I’ve had from them and just hope that this cures it… To be continued :grimacing:

So, replaced the Ht board and on the third print it had a fit again. This time I got no notification, it just stopped printing and made the loud clicking noises. The entruder wasn’t clicking, as a mater of fact I couldn’t workout what was. Wouldn’t respond to canceling the print so had to turn it off with the nozzle at full temperature. Now waiting for tech to respond to see what’s next but I think it’s fair to say I have a duff one as it must happen every now and then… stay tuned for you next bulletin :face_with_raised_eyebrow:

Ok so far so good. Filament sensor and base changed, HT board changed and SD card replaced with a new one. It’s now completed three 3hr prints of the same model and have come out exactly as you would expect for a 3 month old printer. New test is a larger longer print… fingers crossed…
