I have been having trouble printing this model: 1" di. screw-in Rods for spool rack or other uses by mateocray - MakerWorld with my A1 mini. I understand that there’s no print profile for A1 mini, but there’s A1, so I decided to try anyways. I downloaded and opened in bambu studio, cut the bottom part so the rods are shorter, and only printed the rods with the screw head.
I printed 2 times, both failed at exactly the layer where the screw starts, like the below
Both times the rods were knocked over from the bed when that layer started to print and the printer started to spaghetti. The problem was probably not the rods being too tall and thin, because the second time I monitored it closely thru the Handy app, and it was shorter. I even increased bed temp to 75C thinking it was a bed adhesion issue, but it was still knocked down.
My specific steps to print were:
Download and open from Bambu Studio home
Used all values from the print profile
Selected A1 Mini 0.4 Nozzle from the printer dropdown since only then does Bambu Studio allow me to send it to the A1 Mini
Used Modified Value after changing the nozzle profile on Studio.
Cut, remove some rods, etc.
Slice and print
If it was indeed because of me choosing the A1 Mini nozzle, can you specifically point out what was changed from the expected print profile by replicating all the steps I did? Or what exactly may have been the issue?
I didn’t open the profile, but looking at the preview…it needs supports.
If you don’t want to use supports, I would flip the model threads down & add a brim.
I actually just tried printing again, but this time with both A1 mini and X1C. X1C is black, A1 mini is blue. Both successfully printed without support, but is much shorter, so guess height does make a difference…?

This is your problem, right here. You’re over-extruding just a tiny bit. Filament builds up on the nozzle and eventually gets “dropped” on to the model. Next time the printhead comes around to that blob, if the blob has solidified enough, the nozzle can’t push through and instead it knocks the part over.
Height is leverage. If any bumps on the printing surface (rectilinear infill, etc), or globs left over after an incomplete nozzle clean, the nozzle may hit the bumps hard enough to tip it over especially as the model gets taller. As others said maybe brims and support (if appropriate) would help stabilize the model.
Does it have infill turned on? If trying to sling filament over open space you’re actually bridging and that can cause issues. Even pretty low percentage infill would possibly help if you aren’t. And if you add infill, use gyroid or other infill that doesn’t cross itself like the default rectilinear. Those crosses make bumps that the nozzle can hit.
About those profiles, this one is by the designer so is probably good. I say this next part only because you said it the way you did - watch out for profiles not by the designer. There’s a cottage industry of folks farming points by posting profiles they never tested. Not all are like that, though. There are helpful folks who sometimes fix up profiles for designers. But if it’s not the designer and there aren’t photos or a good description, might not even want to waste your time. Someone actually putting effort into improving profiles will explain what they did in the description and include photos.
