A1 or P2S?

I know this is a often asked question and there are threads all over reddit etc. But, i can’t find any answer for my needs. So i try it myself here:

At the moment i use an A1 Mini and overall i am happy, though there are some problems with print quality here and there. The biggest problem for me is the small build plate, that’s why i’m about to buy a bigger printer.

Mainly i print material for boardgames (inserst, 3D Terrain, Tokens), but started to print some CyberBrick Models like the MiniTank aswell.

I’m not in for very complex modells or “gear” for cosplay or something. Also no Diorama-models or something for the vitrine.

So…would a A1 be a good fit for this needs? I also own the AMS Lite, so i could use this for the A1. And i’m interessted in a automatic building plate changer, if these are good.

Price is a point for me, so the 500 Euro difference should be worth it…

What do you guys think?

You could purchase two A1 Combos for the price of one P2S combo.

You’ll feel more confident printing fast on the P2S versus the A1, however print quality is the same.

I’d recommend picking up an A1 non-combo and using your existing AMS-lite on the A1. Also pick up a 0.2mm nozzle to install on your A1 Mini for printing really detailed stuff.

I read somewhere that the quality is better on P2S because it doesn’t “shake” as much as on the A1. Is there any truth to that?

That theory comes from different motion systems these printers have. The P series is a core xy which simplified means only the head moves whereas the A series has the bed and part move in the Y axis which is significantly more weight to move around. This different used to be a major difference back when the printer control was essentially rudimentary. Today’s controller for the A series are lightyears ahead and employ a lot of very cleaver motion planing to mitigate the difference between the two a systems.

Short answer, this used to be true but now there isn’t much difference.

I bought it and don’t regret it. The quick nozzle change alone makes it worth it. 200 hours.

Just a note - the P2S now uses the same “A series” style of nozzle so the ability to change them is essentially the same.
