Hi all,
I’m trying to print some pretty basic logos on my a1 using bambulab blue asa. The printer is in an enclosure and the top of the model is flat, but I’m consistently getting bad quality on top layer. I’ve tried ironing which made it a lot worse, slowing down top layer speed and using a variable layer speed but no real improvement. The quality is worst at the top left of the model, but the model is all curves so not sure if rotating it would help. Any suggestions for what to try next?
Sounds like the chamber heat wasn’t high enough and so the print warped a little bit; causing the nozzle to scrape the surface.
If you wish to solve this you’ll need to get a small heater and also figure out/print a way to keep the electronics cool.
For a small heater I’ve seen people use these:
and these:
Although the latter lacks any method of controlling the heat but really most filaments just want a warm enclosure and you’d be hard-pressed to get it “too warm” for the print without encountering additional issues beforehand.
Do not use a heater if you have not printed or came up with a way to allow the A1’s electronics to cool off via one of those air vent prints I linked above or by designing your own. You risk damaging it.
Also Bambu really doesn’t recommend doing this sort of thing and so if something goes wrong they could easily deny you any assistance so… yeah, do at your own risk.
EDIT: It’s also possible your build plate’s just dirty and the chamber was warm enough but the ASA warped anyway as its prone to do even in the best of conditions; particularly with larger prints. Unless you absolutely need to use ASA you should consider another filament. That said I would go through, make sure the plate is WASHED (not alcohol, basic dish soap, no moisturizers, etc) and untouched and do basic calibration nonsense but tbh…
that’s a big wide print with not much height which is like, ideal for abs to warp with. Maybe consider trying it with brims turned on (outside only) as well.
Thanks for the reply, warping does sound like it could be the issue. I haven’t had any lift from any edges but i didn’t consider layers warping. It’s for use outdoors so asa is what I’m aiming for. I do have one of those chitu heaters for resin printing so I’ll work out the electronics cooling side and give that a go
Looks to me like you’re really over extruding. Have you calibrated your filament?
