A2L: Dual-Head Kit

One belt. One shuttle. Two mechanically switched toolheads.

  • One X-axis belt

  • One permanent drive shuttle attached to the belt

  • Shuttle mechanically locks to one toolhead at a time

  • When the active head enters its dock, a fixed cam or release pin opens the shuttle latch

  • The dock holds the parked toolhead while the shuttle travels to the opposite side

  • The shuttle locks into the next toolhead, then the dock releases it

  • No independent toolhead movement

Think of a garage door trolley. The shuttle stays attached to the belt, and when the toolhead reaches the dock, cut lever gets pushed to release the latch from the shuttle.

Just a rant for now… but maybe it turns into a project.

Not sure I see the benefit of two separate heads here… Dual extruders, like on the H2D or X2D, make more sense for a bedslinger.

top weight on bedslinger - more ringing and gantry flex - already spend our mass budget moving the bed. Plus speed... the second head can stay loaded, hot, primed, and staged independently. Dock, swap, go.

No, you wanted.

true... thinking print farms - support material on a workhorse...

…but why?

Bambu has already developed the H2D toolhead that accomplishes the exact same thing without having to couple and decouple from the x axis drive belt.

Thanks for your great comment - that's a really interesting point of view.

Budget bedslinger + support-material toolhead - I think there is a market but maybe not. Even induction is slow compared to the competition. Most are moving to IDEX - both toolheads stay hot, loaded, and primed.
