ABS warping issues on the supported upper corners of the part

Hi everyone,

I’m printing a trailer hitch cover in generic ABS on my Bambu Lab X1C and I’m getting warping issues on the upper corners of the part that are supported by Tree Hybrid Support.

Setup & Materials:

  • Printer: Bambu Lab X1C
  • Filament: Generic ABS
  • Bed: Frostbite @ 100 °C
  • Chamber Temp: 50 °C throughout the print
  • Profiles Tried: Generic ABS and Bambu Lab ABS
  • Supports: Applied in all overhang areas
  • First Layer Adhesion: Excellent (no peeling), works with cold, engineering, and PEI bed modes

Problem:
When the print reaches the top flat section, the corners start lifting (warping). Switching to Silent Mode reduced the effect slightly, but it’s still there.

What I’ve Tried:

  • Lowering print speed (Silent Mode) – slight improvement
  • Changing between generic ABS and Bambu Lab ABS profiles – no improvement

Question:
Would further reducing extrusion speed help? Are there recommended Bambu Studio settings, support configurations, or other adjustments that could prevent this warping?

Thought about using glue?

There’s no shame in using glue to solve a problem — I always say better glue than wasting material. You could also try heating the build plate for about 15 minutes before printing to ensure the entire plate is evenly warm.

I tried using glue, but even though the piece doesn’t come off the bed, when it gets to the last layer the ABS starts to turn white or become crumbly. I’m not sure if the temperature is too high inside the chamber, if it’s the fumes, or if I need to increase the infill. There’s also a chance it’s something in the design of the piece or poor-quality filament. Since I can’t attach an image here, it’s a bit hard to explain.

If ABS turns white or crumbly on the last layers even when bed adhesion is fine, it’s usually due to thermal stress or poor bonding in the top layers, not fumes. The whitening effect is a sign of micro-cracks forming as the material cools unevenly.

Things that can cause this:

  • Chamber temperature – If it’s too hot for too long, thin sections can lose strength. If it’s too cool, the material can shrink too quickly and form cracks.
  • Filament condition – Even small amounts of moisture in ABS can cause surface defects and weak bonding.
  • Infill and top layers – Low infill or too few top layers leaves the upper surface with less support.
  • Cooling – Strong cooling on ABS, especially in upper layers, can trigger whitening.
  • Design factors – Sharp corners, thin walls, and sudden geometry changes concentrate stress and increase the risk of cracks.

If these areas are checked one by one, it’s usually possible to pinpoint whether the problem is material, temperature control, or design-related.

OK. I’ll look into the points you mentioned and then check if a brand from Bambu Lab or Polymaker delivers better results.
