Making claims against copyright infringements can be a disorienting and time-consuming process, and we want to try our best to help. We are happy to share the MakerWorld Copyright Support program, available to creators now!

  • How does the Copyright Support program work?

    • When your MakerWorld Exclusive Model is infringed, file an application with the Copyright Support program to provide necessary documents and authorizations. A professional copyright agency, partnered with MakerWorld, will assist you in filing an copyright complaint with the platform hosting the infringed model.

  • Do I need to pay for this service?

    • Unless otherwise stated, all costs incurred in this process is covered by MakerWorld.

  • Who and what are eligible?

    • Currently, MakerWorld creators with 300+ followers are eligible for the Copyright Support program. We hope to gradually make this service available to more creators in the future.
    • In addition, the model submitted for this service must meet the following requirements
      • It must be a MakerWorld Exclusive model
      • The creator must confirm that it’s their original design
      • It must not involve any third-party IP

  • How to apply?

    • From your profile image on the MakerWorld homepage, [Creator Center] > [Copyright Service] > [Copyright Support] > [Apply Now]

  • What do I need to submit?

    • Basic creator information, including name, phone number, ID cards, etc.
    • Proof of creation, such as design drafts, sketches, records of the creation process, etc.
    • Proof of publication and the publisher’s identity

  • Sounds like a lot. How can I better prepare for this?

    • Keep copyright protection in mind when you are creating! We recommend taking these actions along the way:
      • Document the creation process to the best you can
      • Publish your work in a timely manner
      • Complete copyright registration is always recommended

That sounds like a nice feature! It can genuinely help creators on MW.

I find it very strange that legitimacy is measured by the number of followers, rather than by successful prints and the overall impression.

Does that mean someone with a bot farm gets protection, but not someone who never promotes their work on social media?

That rules someone like me out anyway, for example, because I don’t want an company to have a copy of my ID card due to potential data leaks.

Furthermore: Most countries in Europe don’t even allow sending a copy to companies that aren’t authorized to receive it, and Bambu is definitely not one of them. Only companies that meet strict requirements - such as banks - are permitted to do so, and only after verifying the cardholder’s identity by ID-PIN.

It’s a nice idea, but it doesn’t seem to have been thought through very well nor adapted to the different countries and regulations.

I would encourage you [makerworld] to apply this “standard of care” to all of your listings that are eligible for the Makerworld Points Economy. Disney/etc is gonna come knocking once they understand that money is flowing via what could be described as “an ad network” riding on the backs of their pirated marks…

I can see this going south very quickly the way Bambu seems to blindly use blanket application of rules. Some people are going to get punished unfairly while others benefit unfairly. IP infringement is not a trivial subject to investigate.
