Add custom filament display colors (RGB/HSV sliders) for AMS non-RFID filaments

Problem
When loading filaments without RFID tags in the AMS, the printer UI only offers a small preset list of colors for “display color.” This becomes a real problem when multiple filaments are visually similar or don’t fit the preset palette well, for example:

  • Multiple shades of the same color (light/dark blue, warm/cool gray, etc.)
  • Dual/multi-color filaments (silk dual, tri-color, rainbow)
  • Camouflage prints using 3–4 subtly different tones of color
  • Transparent or translucent filaments
  • Specialty colors (gold, silver, glow, wood-fill)
  • Mixed brands where preset colors get “used up,” forcing inaccurate choices (example – brown wood filament and a real red filament loaded together, but only one “closest” preset is available)

This increases confusion and makes it easier to assign the wrong filament to a slot, especially with multi-AMS setups or frequent swaps.

Requested feature (firmware UI)
Add a “Custom” option when setting filament display color that supports:

  1. Custom color name (text field)
  2. Color picker with RGB or HSV sliders (fine control for subtle shades)
  3. Save as preset (optional) – store recent/custom colors for reuse
  4. Sync behavior (optional) – the custom name/color should be visible consistently on the printer screen and in the device view (where applicable)

Expected behavior

  • If a filament has RFID, keep current automatic behavior.
  • If a filament has no RFID, allow selecting either a preset color or “Custom.”
  • The custom color and name should display in the AMS slot view and anywhere the printer uses color labels to represent slots.

Why it matters
The filament market is much larger than a single brand’s RFID ecosystem – the number of real-world filament colors and effects is effectively endless. Better representation in the printer UI reduces mistakes, improves multi-material workflows, and makes AMS management much clearer for anyone using third-party filaments.

Implementation note
This is UI/metadata only – no slicing or print behavior changes required. It should be relatively low risk and high usability impact for AMS users.

For me, adding “Accents” would help me more than fully custom colors. Like a metadata on top of the selected color.

Because basic colors are fine, but what I always mess is the type of the basic color (like if I have black mate PLA and normal PLA non bambu I always forget which one is which… it is ok for artistic purposes sometimes, gives a new unexpected look to the print :grimacing:)

Hello!

Sure, like a subcategory, that would be great. Adding icons or symbols to represent these “flavors” would help a lot!
