Add 'Drop to Bed' to Bambu Studio

I would love to see Drop to Bed added to Bambu studio. It really is a basic feature for lining up Objects, which I mostly use to build stuff with.

Would make my life easier if I could drop an object to zero. ie, the bed.

Doesn’t this automatically happen? I’ve been printing with Bambu’s slicer for years and have never seen a model elevated on the plate, as in just floating, it would certainly output an error message if you sliced a floating model, at the very least it would require you to enable support.

I agree with the OP…
It will drop to the bed, but it doesn’t drop it as “flat”.
You usually don’t notice until you slice the model, then you have to re-adjust it.

It drops at the orientation the file was exported with.

The slicer doesn’t know what is up or down, if you let the slicer decide it may use the flat side of the models side, which makes it unprintable.

This is what I meat to say, but I’m lacking coffee this morning. Also, I just ran into this last night printing D20 dies, the models were imported as flat on the plate as I designed them, and I wouldn’t want the slicer to decide which flat side down for me.

Perhaps the tool you are looking for is “Lay on Face” in the menus. I was confused by it at first, as it just drew some blobs on my things, so i ignored it. Eventually i went back and realized what I had missed:

Felt right sheepish, I did.

This tool only works on top-level objects, though – not child objects. I have to split them back to objects, do my alignments, then re-merge them. Kind of annoying. The slicer’s 3d modeling capabilities are better than none, but still pretty awful. :slight_smile:

If I read this correctly, you are creating your models in Bambu Studio. I think you might like to try out TinkerCad. It is similar in letting you create objects from primitives, but much more flexible. And free, so give it a try.

(I have learned to use Autodesk Fusion, sorta, for some more complex things, but TinkerCAD is a lot faster for me when I just need to bash something simple together real quick. The GIF I made above shows some simple hooks I made in TinkerCAD to mount some gridfinity bases to my spouse’s drawing table.)

Sometimes you may want your model to rest on an edge or point, rather than a face.

OH! I badly misunderstood.

For that, I would get the object’s Z-height from the resize box, then switch to Move mode, and enter half the z-height into the Z field. Do this in World Coordinates, not object.

(Though for me, just rotating the model to the desired edge is enough, it still lays that edge on the build plate. So maybe I am still misunderstanding the question.)

It’s there… Lay on face, the symbol is a box set at an angle with a curved arrow towards the plate, but without the word AUTO (there are two nearly identical)

works on a selected object, and you need to click the surface you want on the plate

It doesn’t work if the model is tilted slightly & dropped down to the bed.

Yeah me too - I’ve had several instances where the model was tilted just a tiny bit and I didn’t notice, of course the bottom surface was poor as it was on top of a support. Auto lay on face for small angles would be a great option!

Please add a native “Drop to Bed” function to Bambu Studio — not a workaround. Orca Slicer already has this feature. I don’t want to bind or merge objects; I just want to drop them flush to the build plate.
