I’d like to suggest adding the print speed button to the Home Screen of the Touchscreen on the X1C. Currently, it’s buried a menu down and would be an easy swap to bring it up a level replacing the WiFi button. Not sure how many people are actually hitting that WiFi button once it’s set up, but it seems like having the print speed option at the top level would make more sense.
Whilst your preference is to change speed often, necessitating quick access, I imagine for others it is seeing the wifi strength indicator.
Depending on the location of the printer to the router, the build type of the house (I have thick bricks for all internal walls) WiFi isn’t always going to be perfectly stable for everyone.
That isn’t just a button to configure WiFi.
Just my thoughts before the WiFi indicator/button becomes a sacrificial lamb.
I have only ever changed the speed from the screen once, I normally control speed before slicing.
I totally understand. But in most instances, these printers aren’t moving, so WiFi strength in a static location is rarely going to change. Two bars in one location today will be two bars tomorrow (I understand that’s not always the case, but for the vast majority, it is). Ideally, everyone can win: they could just add the print speed button to the home screen vs. removing the WiFi button (perhaps relocating it or making everything fit).
This would make it consistent with Bambu Studio, which also groups print speed with the other print functions and shifts the WiFi indicator to another spot.
Again, I am not disputing your wish to add prominence to the speed indicator, but, a quick search around the forums will show you that many people have issues with WiFi because boards aren’t the best.
A static device can still have issues with connections.
You are clearly lucky to have not experienced this, but, with a VERY expensive state-of-the-art router with the most recent standards and printers in fixed locations, OTHER factors like bricks, nearby signals, water running, and other noisy signals - WiFi is not constant.
There’s a lot more real estate on BS than is available on the screen. Across the board, even the Panda Touch, wifi signal is preferred on the main screen.
Reading across the boards you’ll find that signal changes more than you’d think. The printers location doesn’t change but the condition of the router does. As well one of the first indications the SD card is dying or dead is wifi connectivity. All the wifi info is on that card.
Not trying to fight on this, but I’d rather have to click into a different menu/screen to change speed, than to look at signal.
Depending on when, or how often, you could set up a profile within Studio for the speed you want.
And I edited the OP to make the suggestion of just adding the print speed vs. removing the WiFi signal to make room for it. Thanks again for your input. I am blessed to have a very robust network that took a long time to get there.
The issue is likely more a combination of UX and anticipated use.
There is a minimum hit point for UI, consistency is key to making that work.
The bottom three buttons need their space, they essentially define the height for other buttons as changing heights in the same space causes the average user to miss the point they aim for.
The A1 mini screen is at the very low end of the hit point size, it works though because all items have identical sizes.
A better idea might be to let the user decide.
They could have a toggle in the settings to say ‘show WiFi or Speed’ as the primary button. They could then decide their priority. Those with WiFi issues could choose to have the WiFi option (which I imagine would be the default due to the need during setup. Those wishing to toggle speeds could select the Speed setting as they determine it is more important to quickly gain access to those places.
The other thing to consider with the 5" screen being powered by Arduino compatible hardware is they are likely not directly accessible and instead may use the Nexus style screen which you upload the UI to the screen’s own SD Card and then each element has an ID which you reference in the code to make changes like captions or show/hide images already on display.
Nope, I need that button to reset wifi during long prints as toggling it also overcomes Studios “printer not connected” bug.
And if I need the speed button, then I did not set my speeds correctly in the slicer.
Make space by removing the stupid picture of the printer. It tells you nothing about the printer status, and you have to be standing in front of the printer to see the picture of the printer. If you do not already know what the printer looks like, you will not know where to stand to see the picture.
It’s as stupid and redundant as a Corvette with a “VETTE” vanity plate.
