Adding a backup spool during printing - possible update?

Hello to everyone! I have an X1C with AMS.

I appreciate the AMS feature for automatic filament swapping when a spool runs out, ensuring seamless prints.

However, I’ve noticed that the backup spool must be inserted before starting the print. If I insert a backup spool during printing, I’m unable to load it or set its properties, even if I pause the print job.

While I can replace the empty spool in the same slot once it runs out, this isn’t helpful if I’m away when it happens. I’d like the ability to pre-load a backup spool into a free slot during a print, ensuring uninterrupted printing.

Would it be possible to add this functionality in a future AMS firmware update?

The firmware versions that I’m currently using are the 01.08.02.00 for the printer and 00.00.06.44 for the AMS.

If you’re away, how would you set the filament or insert it into the AMS? If you’re there, why wouldn’t you add enough to begin with?

I understand the wish. It can easily happen that you start a print without paying much attention how much is left on a roll and later realize that it won’t be sufficient.

I understand that reading the RFID is not possible while printing, because it would have to feed the filament and the path is blocked by the currently printing filament.
But I don’t understand why you can’t manually select the filament.
The printer could even delay reading the new spool RFID until the first roll is empty, then it could catch up reading. If the new spool is suitable, then it could continue the print, if not, it could still ask for replacement.
When you put several rolls in the AMS quickly, it does something similar, reading the spools one after another.

While I haven’t had the need to put a follow up roll while printing, I wanted a few times to put in spools for the next print while the first was still running. I was very irritated when that wasn’t possible.
