What is the best adhesive for attaching metal nut to a PLA object?
Not using any adhesive at all - won’t hold, but two possibilities:
- Insert a pause in the g-code using the slicer. Insert your nut during the pause, re-start the printer, then print over it. This is how it is done with magnets, too.
- Or make the hole smaller and buy special thread inserts that can be melted into place.
The problem with bonding metal and plastic is that they expand at different rates when they get warm or cold, meaning the bond never lasts long or can withstand stress.

If I pause the printer to insert the nut how do I keep the print head from hitting the nut?
Just like in this video, the only difference to a magnet is that you don’t close one side completely, but leave a hole for the screw, for example. Of course, the shape in 3D printing should not be round, but rather like a nut.
