Apple AirTag form factor is perfect for various door wave-to-open induction opener our building is using. Thus I am thinking to try designing something like this (although I never actually designed any 3D model ever.
I tried finding one online but only found AirTag holders, not AirTag itself which uses push and rotate mechanism to open for the battery. I would need similar opening mechanism to insert the little door chip.
Does anyone is there something like it out there…?
Ideally, I would pair it with something which would nicely serve as a way to attach it with rest of the keys.
for a first design I think thats too difficult, have you consider simplify the design? (I know complex designs can be achieved but requires a lots of iterations and makes no sense get frustrated on the first attempt )
I found a good tutorial how to make push/twist mechanism. I tried to apply it to Apple’s measurements specs for AirTag but those are impossibly tight for 3D printing…at least with materials I have. The metal notch Apple designed is super thin, it feels less than 1mm.
Thus you’re right, I’m going for something simpler as I need to make something to carry the door opener before I lose or damage it.
I really like Shapr3D - several videos and some light reading of their online help was enough to get me to this point. Now I have about 10 days to figure out is it worth €300/y for me. I much prefer desktop apps versus browser apps but it’s a steep price for occasional hobby use.
