Aliexpress seller selling my models?

Congratulations, but you’re violating MakerWorld’s exclusive agreement you entered into willingly by doing so.

He said they are licensing his design, not distributing it.

To participate in the program the design needs to be exclusively available from makerworld, nothing about the prints themselves is restricted.

You could even set up a Patreon that gives members a commercial license to sell prints of your exclusive makerworld models.

You’re cutting off the important part:

You’re only showing the Standard Digital License, but missed the part right before it. What you’ve been posting is just what the Standard Digital License entails and you’ve ignored the part right before that says that entering the Exclusive Model Program means that your models are under the SDL.

“Users” or the people downloading the file, are prohibited from all that the SDL lists, but it does not mean the creator is prohibited from it.

I want to be wrong, I wholeheartedly do. I know several designers who’ve left makerworld and several designers who’ve taken their models off of makerworld because we we’re apparently not allowed to sell our own prints and I have yet to see legitimate clarification. @Makerworld would have via this confusion, possibly lost some of its best models and designers out of a misunderstanding that I’ll take the ego hit of being wrong to clarify.

indeed you are wrong, makerworld does not hold any rights to your work, it’s still your work, what you agree to is that you only host / publish the designs on the makerworld platform and not on any others (printables, makeronline, cults, patreon, etc)

the standard digital license governs the use of how users can interact with your work, the reason that makerworld enforces it for their own benefit, is that it does not allow reshare of the digital files, which means a user cannot post your work on other platforms, which some of the CC licenses allow for

as long as you’re not distributing the design files themselves elsewhere you are complying with the exclusive rules, and to be clear allowing people to sell prints under a commercial license has nothing to do with the exclusive rules, it would be infringing if you were allowing them to sell the STLs for example

Well that’s good. Some people become upset and defensive when other people try to help them or keep them from doing stupid things.

The solution then is to stop spreading misinformation. I don’t know how you got the idea of “apparently not allowed to sell your own prints” because nothing in the exclusive program says that, so stop telling people that. It just doesn’t say that anyplace, it’s not “apparently”, it’s just something you decided.

The reason you haven’t seen “legitimate clarification” is because it isn’t a legitimate issue.

Respectfully, nothing is backed up in writing so I’ll believe it when I read it. Too many assumptions have lead to consequences on here. @MakerWorld @BambuLab please clarify exclusive and the ability to license and sell prints. I myself and others have removed models from makerworld to avoid penalties.

suit yourself, but i know the rights i have to my intellectual property, and i’ve read what the exclusive program says, so i don’t really need a confirmation as it’s pretty clear to me

if you have removed and instructed others to do the same under your interpretation, then that is on you

I believe you are confusing two things.

  • Model files
  • Model prints

You upload your model files to MW and they are available for users to download for their own use.

This is all based on the Standard Digital Licence.

You may choose to join the Exclusive program or not, that relates to where your MODEL FILES are hosted and if MW hasn’t banned the category your model falls into.

You may sell your MODEL PRINTS or let others sell your MODEL PRINTS with or without commercial terms.

If you join the Exclusive program, you are not permitted to host your models on any other model sharing services.

There are NO restrictions on the physical MODEL PRINTS.

well it’s my time to rant, getting people on etsy selling designs isn’t something really new unfortunately, and there’s yet another one - williamsworkshop, selling mine and others (pretty sure he doesn’t have a license for the others either)

what makes this different is that this one as a youtube channel, is “print farm” business and even goes as much as showing on a video, going into my profile, following the link to patreon and explaining how to susbcribe, all that and then he sells my designs without a license… this is just something else… video here for the curious ones: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Thj2Qqofj7M

edit/ and now he’s replying to my comments pretending he doesn’t know what he did lol, these people :man_facepalming:

Oh hell no, commented a bit on the vid, what else can we do?

thanks @AeonJoey he already deleted the listings on etsy, and i’ve also reported to youtube, not sure if that will go anywhere, but it’s done either way.

give a look on his store and see if he has anything of yours there and if so report as well, i recognised at least a couple of works of sabredesign

I love this part. You should download his videos and put them on your channel since his are online for free.

What I don’t understand is… How can one think that putting up something for sale doesn’t require licence? And the explanation is “it didn’t sell!”

Are people really like this or are those rare examples?

yeah it’s not unheard of, but to be honest i think this was just dodging, seeing that as soon as i raised it, the listings were taken down from Etsy - i did report them, but they usually take a couple of days to take down, so he was the one that deleted them for sure
