Alignment tools?

I want to make a plate with some holes specifically placed. Can I do that with Bambu Studio? Tutorials I’ve found seem to eyeball the placement. I’d like something more accurate.

Well, you can move pieces (imported or created objects/parts/modifiers) around and position them using actual measurements/coordinates, though the software’s local (object) coordinate system may offer some surprises especially if you start re-orienting stuff. Positioning can be done with numeric entry, which is a lot more accurate than visually (I usually get it close visually then fine-tune with numeric entry if it matters). There are also the basic align/distribute commands (r-click on selected object(s)/part(s)), which can help align edges and such.

However I personally wouldn’t, and don’t, use it for anything I’m really going to care about preserving or modifying later. Well, I’m trying to be a lot better about it, anyway… :sweat_smile:
It’s tempting to throw some modifiers or quick adjustments on a model in the slicer, but, in my somewhat limited experience so far, it almost never saves time in the longer run. For example if working with an imported object (STL/etc) and that object get modified, there’s no real guarantee “reload from disk” will properly preserve your changes… assuming that’s even an option (eg. an STL wasn’t separated to parts, or the original mesh model isn’t in the same location on disk as it was, etc). Copy/pasting parts onto a new version of an imported model will probably not preserve their position correctly. And just the way visual rotation works (around plate center) is frustrating enough in itself for me to reach for some (any) actual CAD software instead.

CAD is the right way to do this. Something like TinkerCAD wouldn’t be too hard to learn for the objective described. You’d just need some basics. Plenty of tutorials on YT to get you going.
