Alternate switch for Lithophane LED backlight board?

Question:

I want a way to turn on the lithophane panel to a set dimming level when powered on by a USB hub switch.

I have multiple “book nook” models that are connected to a USB hub controlled by an automated switch. This allows me to turn them all on or off with a voice command. One model, however, is lit by a lithophane LED backboard which comes with a touch control button on the power cord (PH2.0). As such, it does not turn on with the rest. I have to remove books and reach behind to find the button. It is also too bright at first, but holding the button dims the board.

Another model I have uses a USB power cord with PH2.0 connector connected to the 100mm Y Type PH2.0 to Dual SH1.0 Conversion Wire, with one SH1.0 “Y” plugged to a potentiometer (set dimming even when the power is cycled), and a COB LED light strip on the other SH1.0 “Y”. I would like to have something similar connected to the lithophane backboard, allowing remote on and off to a set dimming level. Unfortunately, the solution above ends in a SH1.0 plug, not a PH2.0.

What is the best solution?

  • Replace the Bambu cable with a generic ‘Dimming USB LED’ cable that saves the last dimming level. Some cables explicitly advertise this feature.
  • Or replace it with a USB LED cable without a switch. In that case, the dimming level will be constant, depending on the voltage you’re picking up.

When I type that into Google, I get countless options: “USB to PH2.0 Power Cable” or “Dimming USB LED”.


Why don’t you just buy the same one again? A soldering iron is your friend, but if you don’t feel confident doing it:

Edit: I just checked - the other set is rated for too few watts; you need one with 10 watts. So you’ll have to buy a cable, set, or kit from another supplier that’s designed for this purpose. So, scratch the part about “Why don’t you just buy the same one again?”; the rest - about connecting it - is still relevant, of course, so I’ll leave it as is.

Cut the cable in the middle and use clips like these - I did the same thing with my LED setup because it’s convenient. I think you’re overcomplicating things.


…or you can buy an adapter cable: “SH1.0 plug to PH2.0.” Bambu even offers one. There are other options as well, depending on what you need. Whether as a male (plug) or female version.

Without even looking up the specs of the backlight or pot, that seems like potentially an enormous amount of power being dissipated in the pot which it is almost certainly not rated for. Is this configuration something makerworld recommends?

Yes, recommended and also sold by Bambu:


However, it is not suitable for his other set; it is only compatible with Cob LEDs. It is not compatible with the Lithophane LED Backlight Board Kit. This is not due to the plugs, but rather the wattage – I have just checked. He’ll need a kit that can handle 10 watts.

I use these in lightboxes. They remember on/off and dimming, have wide input ranges, and handle significant current.

Not sure if they are what you’re looking for but maybe? These just end in wires though. You’d need to add connectors. They work well.
