AMS 2 Pro losing power while drying and printing simultaneously

I am printing at a 65C chamber, 110C bed, and 280C nozzle temps with the AMS 2 Pro in drying mode(65C). Suddenly the AMS completely shuts off…. (overload?) There used to be a notification saying I can’t turn the AMS dryer up past 45C while a print is running, but now I no longer get that notification - instead it says something like - “the drying temp will be adjusted for optimal print quality“ when you start during a print.

This is the second time it has happened. Once it was an H2S and now on an H2D.

Perhaps I accidently bypassed a safe guard and it failed on itself? - when I started the dryer before hand set to 65C then started the print from Bambu Studio?

ps - I wasn’t trying to by-pass anything as I thought it automatically adjusted - however I am running an older version of Bambu Studio(v2.3.7) (I had been using this version since it still allows custom user filament profiles working with Bambu high-flow nozzles)

Has anybody else had this happen to them? I don’t really use high-flow nozzles anymore and perhaps it’s time to upgrade Bambu Studio

Id usually say upgrade the firmware and see if that fixes it, they had only just given the H2C this option (to print with the AMS running the heater) but I think it’s still in beta software?

What you could do is save all your settings before updating and they if you do need to roll back the software you can and then still have your settings for the HF nozzles !

Either that or if you have a second laptop or computer you could try the new software on that and compare ?

Otherwise I’m sure someone would provide you with a sliced file using the latest software if you provided some settings you wish (plastic, temps, nozzle ect)

Have you tried low-power mode on the H2D? …does your AMS only shut off when the bed/nozzles are getting up to temp?

I have not had this issue, but do you think it could be a power (mains) problem? I live in the US and the room where I have my H2D only has a 15amp circuit. The power draw is pretty high when the H2D is getting up to temp. I can’t play a game (high GPU + CPU usage) on my computer and start a print at the same time. That was until a firmware or two ago when BBL gave the option in settings for low power mode. Takes a little longer to heat up, but no electrical surges or breakers popping.

In low power mode, I can play games on my computer, start and run a print while simultaneously drying in the AMS.

Drying while printing is not a good feature and it often causes more problems than it solves.

Bambu is being really stupid to add drying to AMS, let alone adding drying during printing. Both are things that seemingly nice but actually suck. I understand the idea of catering for the idiots but it really sucks to be forced to pay for a bad feature.

Back to your problem, it’s likely that your chamber temperature is raising the AMS’s temperature, triggering a thermal runout shutoff, which is a safety feature.

Solution? Well the best solution is to get a proper dryer and dry the filament beforehand, not during use, which is inefficient and unreliable.

Aye, I decided that I’m going to try and dry them beforehand in another drying box.

My filament is sensitive to moisture. But for the part I’m printing, it isn’t super critical on dimensional accuracy. Main purpose of drying it, is getting it to the point of stable extrusion.

In future, I might just have to remember to keep the the drying temp below say 55C, or @blep switch to low power mode.

If it would be thermal runout I could experiment with lowering the heated chamber temp…
