Hoping someone can help figure out what I’ve overlooked. One slot of my ams2 claims it can’t retract, but it does!
I have checked the whole filament path both piece by piece individually at each step and by slowly feeding the ams manually until filament came out of the nozzle.
There is no clog in the ams, the tube out of the ams, the tube into the buffer, the tube from the buffer to the extruder, nor the extruder itself. The nozzle is not clogged, the PTFE is all in good shape.
Restarted printer and even did a firmware update out of desperation, I cannot load slot 2 because it fails to retract ghost filament that isn’t there.

My money is on the first stage feeder. If you swap the problem feeder with one of the other ones and the problem moves with it then you’ve confirmed it. Could be something is blocking the filament sensor, or the sensor might be going bad.

Thank you! I will try that if it gives me more grief.
For now it’s cooperating after doing the ol’ “Take everything apart and put it back together”.
I think one of the little bent metal thingies™ inside the 4 part splitter was stuck.
If the magnets come loose or get stuck, there’s no signal that the filament has retracted — and that’s when the fun begins.
Happened to me once with the original AMS when our cats decided to have a full-on wrestling match and body-slammed the unit. Let’s just say it survived, but my nerves didn’t.
