AMS/AMS2 efficiency recommendation

AMS2 Pro… Why does it have to retract the filament all the way back after each print?

If I print the majority of the time with slot 1, then why not just have it cut and extract out of the extruder/hot end to clear it?

Doing this would save a lot of wear and tear on a number of parts:
bowden tubes
ams motors and all related parts.

If you change colors/filaments, THEN it would go through all the motions of full retraction and load / swapping of the filaments. Otherwise, it just has to move the filament about 2" back into the extruder for your next print.

Its not smart enough to know the user has a default color in mind. It readys the system to use any spool on start up. Maybe send it a feature request to have the AMS get a default spool setting to do this. It’s not a bad idea either.

It doesnt have to know about a “default color.”
It just keeps the previously used color staged and ready, in the event it is to be reused. If changed? Cool…swap.

Thx!
