This is the first time I’ve run into this issue: I ran out of filament in my AMS Pro on the H2D, and the print stopped.
I was using two identical filaments in the AMS—both were Generic black PETG. Before starting the print, I was aware of this and I even clicked on “auto-refill” to make sure the AMS recognized both spools.
But it didn’t work as expected. The print paused when the first spool ran out. The printer then required me to manually remove the empty spool from slot 1 and load the second one into that same slot. After doing this, the print resumed without any issues.
hi, i had a similar issue, identical PLAs, (i bought 4 rolls at once). what i did do and was not sure if i should have was i saw the roll running out and the black tape holding it on. i panicked and cut the filament thinking this will stop a jam it then just carried on printing nothing. should i have left the old roll just feel the tension as it hit the tape at the end?
Bambu spools have a tiny white piece of tape holding the filament at the end. In the past a spool could get stuck at the end. It’s hard to verify now what went wrong.
The fact that it didn’t switch, seems to indicate that it didn’t see the other spool as an alternative.
If you check the “Auto Refill” it normally shows the 2 spool numbers in 2 half circular arrows.
I am not sure if it might have issues with non Bambu filaments
I’ve had this happen repeatedly with the H2D. My X1’s will move to the next roll without fail. My H2D can be filled with four rolls of black, all set in the AMS in the program, and it will run out of one and stop. When you click on auto refill it gives you some nonsense about left and right nozzle with continue with the same filament in another slot. But many times it does not.
What is for sure a bug it can’t find correctly and you feed it a new spool in the same slot it will works fine but then doesn’t know what filament its using and doesn’t update the printer. Works fine for the rest of the print but have to ‘reread’ for next print. This is a little weird since it reads the rfid on every rotation for guessing how full the spool is.
I have had to load the same spool a couple of times too, and it neglects to read the filament. Possibly better, because it might not be able to run a read cycle due to lack of space in the tubes. I am not sure if the AMS updates the amount of filament every rotation. That would mean that the RFID reader needs to be active constantly. It just subtracts the amount used from the known amount on the spool imho.
I used the option recently with great success slot 4 empty it started on slot one , during printing if you clicked on auto refil it gave a, it will be used message in studio ,
today (currently im hoping to achieve the same outcome slot 4 empties and it continues with slot 1
both black bambu pla, but for some reason they appear to be the wrong way round both in studio and printer as seen in the image ,can anyone throw any light on this ?
