I have a X1 carbon with the AMS. Lately when starting a print, it will remove the old filament, feed the new filament almost to the extruder head and then stop feeding and retract the filament repeatedly. If I manually push the filament forward at the AMS when it stops, it will then get into the extruder and purge the remainder of the old filament and the print will start. What part do I have to clean or check or replace? Thank you for any help you may be able to give me.
I use Bambu studio, and my filament is PLA from either ELEGOO or BambuLab. I have a riser on the top of the X1C and there are no extreme bends in any of the PTFE tubes
There are prints that will align the PTFE tube for a better entry position, smoother arch. Usually that’s what causes what your describing.
Another culprit could be that the PTFE tube needs replacing. If you’ve been using your printer for awhile and haven’t looked at it, I’d suggest doing so. PTFE tubes are a consumable and wear out. Especially if you happen to be using glow, any CF or GF filament. Basic and PETG can wear it over time too.

Lastly, it could be the filament sensor. I would look into the other two first, but it’s also a good idea to order a filament sensor or two to keep on hand. They don’t go bad quickly, but it’s nice to have on hand when you need one. Not expensive.

I do have a printed piece that helps with the curve at the extruder head, I will order the new extruder gear thingie and replace the tubes.

Well order it if you intend to keep them on hand. Wouldn’t hurt to keep a bit of PTFE tube and other spares on hand.
I don’t think it could be any other thing causing your issues. Oh, and if you haven’t in awhile change your cutter blade as well. It’s a consumable as well.
Unless you use it as a whip.
