Ams feeder really slow on my h2c?

I can’t upload a video for some reason but basically one of my slots, it’s feeding reaaaaaally slowly and then completely fails to retract

The spool material goes absolutely everywhere inside the ams but the reel itself fails to turn with it :frowning:

Has anyone had this before?

Tried with plastic reels and the fault is specific to that ams slot. It’s fine in the others.

Hopefully this works.

You might want to check if the rollers are spinning freely in that station.

There might be dust from the cardboard spools accumulated below.

You should be able to pop the front and rear out without any tools. Keep an eye on the bearings as they might fall off.

It also looks like that particular roll is awfully close to the inlet on the AMS. I have had it rub the filament on one brand in the past, Geetech. This caused it to be slow and retract in a similar fashion. The friction also wore a groove into the filament spool due to the friction and lack of movement. I moved it to the AMS HT which has a bit more space and it ran fine. After I went through 15% or so of the roll I moved it back to the AMS and it was happy. I dont know if the spool was just over wound or what the issue was. I’ve run other Geetech since with only the AMS overloaded warning until it gets a bit into the roll.

Yeah they’re spinning lovely and free regarding the rollers, popped them out to have a look too and nothing seems untoward.

I might give it a blast of 7bar of pressure tomorrow to see if it’s got anything inside it. Just to confirm I moved that spool to one of the others and it was spot on and Infact I originally saw the issue with a different spool.

Starting to wonder if somethings been dragged into it like tape that holds the filament to the spool etc.

If you just stick the filament to the side of the spool, and don’t feed it in, can you rotate the spool without resistance in that slot?

If the rollers are spinning freely, I don’t see the need to blow them clean with 7 Bar.

You might even blow dust into the bearings.

It might be something pulled into the feeder as you mentioned. I am not sure you can disassemble those to clean them.

Sorry I meant blow down the ams feeder. It’s dead weird as they all look identical and yes moving the spool either side feels exactly the same.

The only way I can describe it is that it’s like power has been reduced to that motor by 50%

I’ve opened a ticket with bambu and should be well within warranty so I will see how they sort it. Pretty disappointed after not even a year and it’s failed but it is what it is.

The one positive aspect of the fact that it’s within warranty, is that you get full support!

So better having this within warranty period.

I spoke too soon, apparently the feeder motors are 3 months only :joy:

Well if this isn’t a weird turn of events.

Bambu sent me out a feeder motor and rollers for front and rear. which I have now replaced and the problem is still there :grimacing::grimacing::thinking:

I bet it’s the main board in the ams.

Just keeping this updated incase it helps others in the future.

New main board being sent out to me so will see if that fixes it!

It’s not the AMS - it the spool.

I have had this with some Prusament spools. Rolllers and motors are perfectly fine with Bambu spools. I found the dimensions of some spools, like some Prusament, are slightly different - so the spool is slightly wider etc. This means it can’t turn freely when place din the AMS.

Try a BambuLab spool in the same AMS slot - it should work fine, and this will rule out a motor or rollers errors.

I have had some luck by moving the troublesome spool into one of the centre slots of the AMS - sometime it runs fine in slots 2 or 3. Other times it doesn’t - but Ive noticed it’s always with some non-Bambu spools. Bambu spools always seem to be fine.

I appreciate the post, but don’t be so conclusively certain.. I’m not stupid I’ve tried loads of other spools in there :joy: exactly the same result.

Swapped the mother board out and it looks to have fixed it! I didn’t have time to fully investigate as I’ve got some big orders to complete but I quickly popped a spool in and it span at the usual speed.
