I want to request an update to the UI of AMS spools, to make it easier to estimate how much material is actually left on a spool.
I dont expect hard numbers or anything, but I find the current display of the estimation to be suboptimal.
What I suggest is adding guiding lines to the UI to show thresholds, either of every 200g or every 100g of filament passed.
Something along those lines, which would estimate around every 200g:
Just to make it a bit easier to tell ahead of time- at a glance and without having to weigh your remaining filament, of whether or not you have enough remaining to finish a print without needing to swap midway or near the end.
There is in fact a way for the AMS to know how much material is inside (assuming you put in bambu 1kg filament spools since its calibrated to that to my limited understanding).
Though it is not exact, it is an estimation, it even exists already, but if you want to learn how they do it, here is an interview with the CEO of Bambu Lab explained roughly:
And I dont advocate for more precise estimates or exact numbers, though it would be nice, but a simple UI change to make it easier for myself and others to get a closer interpretation on understanding the systems estimation of remaining filament.
The AMS calculates remaining filament by running out a known length down th efilament path and counting the revolutions of the spool. It’s just that it indicates the amount with a tiny bar gauge on the printer display.
