I currently have a Bambu Lab X1 Carbon with 1 AMS. I am strongly considering purchasing an additional AMS so that I can print with up to 8 colors.
Before I press “buy”, I have a logistical problem with space that I hope you can help me with:
Unfortunately, I do not have the option of placing AMS no. 2 right next to or on top of the printer/AMS no. 1. It will have to be placed a little distance away (e.g. on another shelf or a neighboring table).
In this regard, I would like to know:
How far away from the printer and the first AMS can I actually place AMS no. 2? (How long can the PTFE hose be before the printer has problems feeding the filament?)
What is the maximum length of the 6-PIN cable that can be used between the two AMS units without losing signal or voltage?
Is there any other hardware I need to buy or be aware of when I want to run 2 AMS? (I’m thinking of hubs, extra hoses, power or special setup sequences).

Instead of the AMS Hub, the 4-in-1 adapter seems to work fine as well.
I too have 2 AMS, formerly AMS 1, now 2pro, where the second one has a really long tube, certainly >1m. In my experience, length isn’t a big issue, instead it is far more important to have continuous bends. E.g., the filament has a natural curve coming off the spool. when it feeds through the AMS, it can maintain that natural curve. Now it is important to continue that curve instead of sharply forcing it in another direction. In my case, operation was much smoother when the tube first made a curve to the right then back below the AMS into the buffer and continuing the same curve from the buffer into the printer. Before that I had a much shorter tube going directly to the buffer. the curvature wasn’t worse, but alternated directions. The AMS had to work much hard with the shorter tube.
I had a similar issue when getting my second AMS. That was an AMS 1 though. Adding 30cm extra PTFE length was Not a good idea.
With the AMS2 on the other hand (2 sitting on top of my H2C) that is a completely different story. They do have a lot more oomph 
Nevertheless, it does pay out to become creative and inventive to make the path as short as possible. On single nozzle printer, a multi-color print takes much longer if the PTFE is not as short as possible.

You can try, and will have much more success if you can keep the PTFE from needing to bend and snake too much. Smaller is better for speed reasons too, so make sure to trim appropriate and not like leave a “service loop”
