In the wiki documentation there is a note relating to the old vs new 6-pin cable as shown below.
Note: Be sure to use the new 6-pin cable included with AMS 2 Pro and AMS HT. Using the 6-pin cable from the previous generation AMS may cause unstable communication between the AMS and the printer, while the previous generation AMS is compatible with the new 6-pin cable.
Does anyone know anything about how big an issue this cable deal is?
I haven’t even seen that warning before! I am using indifferently 6-pin cables from old AMS or new or AMS HT without having looked at where they came from. I just select the one with the proper length as I have 3 different length cables I think. I have 1 old AMS, 1 AMS2 PRO and 2 AMS HT connected and don’t have any issue. I wonder how we could differentiate them, I’ll have a look a the cables next time.
I have two regular AMS units, a single AMS 2, and a single AMS HT which I received a week ago. It was while reading the wiki setup for the HT that I came across the notice about the cables.
I have not had any issues so far and there is a mix of cables that came with the various AMS devices and long cables I bought from the store.
I rerouted a bunch of the cables yesterday and there are no markings that I can see that distinguish between new but backwards compatible cables and older cables.
Does it use that cable for drying ?,could the old cable cause issues with drying ?

The 6 pins are connected so it’s not like any feature could be disable and all my drying functions work as expected
Thats interesting, I have a 1.5m cable from the old AMS I kept for when i need to move the AMS 2 or HT further, but I have not tested it yet. I also see they dont have a longer 1.5m cable available for the AMS 2/HT.
I read that note as new 6-pin cables are backwards compatible. OLD 6-pin cables are NOT.
Which somewhat matches the expanded functions available in the AMS HT and AMS 2 Pro.
But, I have not had any issues.
I ran both the AMS 2 Pro and AMS HT through a drying cycle. yesterday and they ran through the timed cycle with no issues.
My best guess would be the new cable might have larger diameter wires inside or a better connector to handle the additional current for the drying feature. The old cable would probably still work for communication if you had an external power supply to power the unit for drying. If the new cable had larger wires it would work for either AMS unit. I do not have an original AMS so I cant compare.
If that’s the only difference (wire size) you could run the risk of melting the wires or connector if using the drying feature without a power supply with the old cable.
I made a rack so I can stack all my large AMS on top of each other so needed more cables to daisy chain all 4 AMS to the P1S.
Viisually, the male cable ends look identical.

Is quite vague especially when it is likely that many owners have a mix of old and new AMS devices connected.
Assumptions are risky but the cables have not caused enough of an issue to prompt Bambu Lab to recall old cables. They can look at the sell dates and easily determine who has old cables and who has new.
I have the same problem and I’m using an “old” 1.5m cable to connect the first AMS 2 Pro to the H2D, the second AMS 2 Pro is connected to the first with the new cable and to the power supply for drying. Everything is new and I’m waiting for the AMS HT. For now everything is working normally but I noticed something strange yesterday, starting the drying process for the first time. For both I set ASA as the filament and started drying. The first AMS after a few seconds automatically switches from ASA to PETG and therefore at a lower temperature, while the second one, which has the new cable and the power supply, maintains ASA. I don’t know if it’s the old cable or if the AMS has a problem or if it’s because the only bamboo spool with a tag is a PETG one. I’ll do more tests to understand what the problem is. However, I wrote to support two days ago, asking for explanations about the cables and what the real problems and risks are. Furthermore, since there are several of us, I asked if they intend to sell longer cables, because not all of us have the space above or immediately next to the printer and we are forced to keep the ams further away. Without a suitable cable, it is a problem and I do not think it is right, if the old cable is dangerous, not to be able to use the things we paid for a cable!! For now, they have not responded, as soon as I have news, I will update you! It would be nice to know if those of you who use the old cable have noticed anything like I did.
