AMS HT loading issue with brittle material

I have a strange issue with my AMS HT. My configuration is an H2D (firmware 01.02.00.00) with an AMS 2 Pro (03.00.21.29) on the Right toolhead and an AMS HT (03.00.21.29) on the left one. I often experience a first loading failure when I try to print technical filament like nylon. During the initialisation phase, the printer try to load the filament but it does not get out of the AMS itself. I get a loading warning… I do nothing except acknowledging the warning and everything went fine.
I don’t know if anyone experienced such issue but I did not figure where it could come from.

What type of nylon? Most types except bambu PAHT and PA6-GF and not AMS compatible and must be loaded from external spool or the bypass hole.

I experienced it with PAHT CF and PA GF… There is some warning about usage with AMS regarding risk of filament break but it never happen and again after clicking continue without nothing more, everything went fine… my point is just about this first failure to load the filament.

Ah, thats the “GF/CF filaments are brittle and can break in the AMS, use with caution”, that pops up each time and is to be ignored perpetually. :joy:

That popup should have an option to be permanently dismissed until the next reboot, just like the bed movement notification.

The same goes for the TPU warning — it’s fine if it appears once after each reboot, but not before every single print. It honestly feels like they’re treating advanced users as if we can’t make informed decisions ourselves.

Unfortunately the printer lacks a sensor to determine if you are an advanced user.

So ignoring the bed-movement warning is apparently harmless, but ignoring a popup that shows up 400 times during a single reboot cycle isn’t?

I’d argue that moving the build plate at the wrong time could cause a lot more trouble than a friendly popup nagging me about cold-drawing the nozzle — especially when I haven’t even unloaded the filament and just started a new print. Yet I can ignore the “don’t move the bed before homing” warning just fine. So there’s definitely some kind of genius sensor at work here, right?

If the user decides to ignore the warning, it should actually stay ignored until the printer reboots. Otherwise it just turns into a button-pressing workout. I’m sure even you can agree on that one, can’t you? :wink:

I frequently use brittle material in my normal AMS - what I tend to do though is to ‘snap until bendy’ on each roll of filament before I start the print, and then for known brittle spools I carefully withdraw them overnight and park them inside the AMS - but not actually in the first stage feeder. (see Overnight Parking Zone on Makerworld for example place to park the filament).

It is not that popup… This one appear when I launch the job to the printer. It is an alert when the print has started and the printer first try to load the filament to the nozzle.

Check your PTFE path, make sure there are no sharp turns. Also make sure the tubes are fully seated in buffer and in toolhead. Also a good idea to print the stiff filaments (PA, PC) from left hot end and not right.

I fully agree with you. Don’t worry about that.

That in my opinion is not harmless. In another thread a user crashed his tool head into the build plate because the bed was too high when he hit the “Home” button, and Bambu Lab didn’t want to compensate him for it.

In this case, homing after ignoring that message should warn the user to clear the bed before he can proceed.

And messages the keep popping up can be annoying. Trust me, I do understand that very well.

Only thing is that when I print CF of GF filaments, I only get 1 or 2 warnings in Bambu Studio, but haven’t seen any on the printer.

Leaving the bed too high and then hitting “Home” will absolutely crash the nozzle — no amount of friendly warning messages will save you there.

I’ve documented around forty different situations where the nozzle can hit and damage both itself and the build plate. Bambu Lab has repeatedly brushed these off and even said they have no plans to fix them.

And let’s not forget those who buy the tungsten nozzle for their H2D — they’ll have to keep clicking away that “nozzle mismatch” warning just because Bambu Lab decided to prioritize P2S support first. Completely unreasonable when both H2S and P2S lack automatic nozzle detection, while the H2D actually has it.

Let’s just say… efficiency and prioritization aren’t exactly Bambu Lab’s strongest skills. :wink:

That sounds pretty ignorant.

I would have thought that at least the H2S would have had that feature, since it’s the same platform.

It almost seems like they don’t have enough resources to handle all the products they are developing.

How is it possible to fix? There’s no way they can do anything about it due to the way the hardware works. The best they can do is to add a warning or prompt before hitting home.

How would a warning before homing help?
It’s a bit of a catch-22 — you’re not supposed to move the bed before homing, yet you also shouldn’t home with the bed in its highest position. So what exactly would the warning fix?

At least half of what I’ve documented could be prevented through proper sensor integration, but that would require actual effort. It seems they’d rather keep pushing out shiny new printers and quietly accept that users will damage their machines every now and then.

I know there will always be situations where the sensors fight back and cause damage — I’ve worked a lot with sensor systems in airplanes, so I’m well aware of what can happen when logic and mechanics don’t fully agree.
