AMS HT not meeting expecatations

I need to start off saying I have a P2S Combo with AMS 2 Pro which I love. It has been completely satisfactory from receipt, through unboxing, to first print, to all my other print jobs. I am using Bambu Lab’s filament. Now on to the topic at hand:

I was looking to add the ability to use the higher temp filaments. I put a fresh roll of PLA silk in the AMS HT to dry overnight. It appears that it has not moved overnight. I clocked it in the HT so I would be able to see if it rotated. Also my AMS2 stays less than 10% RH regardless of what the humidity is in the house. I do have aftermarket desiccant holders in both the AMS2 and the HT. The HT has been cooking all night just slightly over 10hrs on a 12 hour program and is down to 19%, it is at 45C, and has been there since the program started.

Final thoughts. First, does it meet expectations as a dryer, no not really. I was expecting it to be at least as dry as the AMS2. I will do further research into seeing if it rotates the spool during drying.

Its obvious and I’m sure you know this, but make sure rotate is turned on and no filament in the inlet when setting up drying for that unit.

On my HTs which I primarily dry a new spool or higher temp spools with, I have had some spools show up with compromised bags and it took a few cycles to dry it out and seeing 30-40% humidity on the display at first and only after the second cycle would it get lower. I had one roll so wet it took 36 hours to dry it out. I’m sure a dedicated dryer or a blast oven would have been better in that situation.

Actually, no I didn’t know I had to manually select spool rotation. Thank you for bringing that to my attention. I just looked at the menu and I can’t find where to enable spool rotation.
I’m fairly sure the vacuum package was not compromised.

Part of this is my own pre-conceived expectations. It does add an extra motorized filament feed, and I do recognize I have several hundred grams of additional desiccant in the Pro 2.

It was early and I dont even understand the word salad I started out with, but I should have explained a little better.
If you are at the printer (I use an H2D) and select the AMS to dry, it presents the filament time, temp and type. Next will present the option to rotate. I “assumed” the P2S works the same since it’s a new release but I could be living in an H2 serles world and giving bad info. It wasnt like that originally and post release firmware update enabled it for the H2 series.

One thing I always do if it has an RFID I let it load up then request the drying, then remove the filament before hitting start.

Haven’t thought of this. It retains the filament type when you select print? Cool.

Sort of, it’s kind of a trick, I just start the drying, then when it gets to the screen to do filament stowage/rotating is when I remove it. I accidentally discovered this when I was trying to figure out why the RFID tag wasnt working on a TPU 95A roll….yes I figured out they didnt have it.

When using my P2s/AMS-HT for drying I select the AMS-HT on the P2S spool screen, then the filament to be dried and tell it to start. It then changes screen and asks if you want to rotate the spool. Having to do an extra function after pressing start is a bit odd!
As mentioned above it won’t dry when the filament is loaded.
