AMS Lite with External Coil

Hi, I have the Bambu A1 Mini with the AMS Lite, but I’m wondering if I can have a 5th color loaded on the external coil. Best regards. :wink:

Something like this 5 Port Complete Replacement AMS Lite Filament Hub by Syphen Guitar Works MakerWorld: Download Free 3D Models makes it easy to load/unload the fifth filament (for project purposes, useful for like TPU). It won’t do it automatically for you however. Your ams has 4 motors that push and pull filament into the extruder motor, your external spool lacks such sophistication

For clarification, you cannot use the external spool in conjunction with the AMS to print with 5 different spools (or colours) at the same time.

You can use up to 4 using the AMS or 1 only when using the external spool.

The external spool is used when:

  • You do not have an AMS
  • You took a hammer to the AMS in a drunken rampage (no judgement)
  • Your spool is physically incompatible with the AMS
  • Your filament cannot be used with the AMS, TPU 95A, TPU 90A and TPU 85A as examples.
  • The filament contains particles that would damage the AMS.
