I’m facing a frustrating AMS loading issue and could use some community wisdom.
My printer reports an “Extruder Clog” every single time I try to load filament from the AMS. The filament goes to the toolhead, pauses, and gets pulled back.
What I’ve Done:
I’ve completely disassembled the extruder and hot end and confirmed they are 100% clear. I can manually feed filament through the extruder and it flows perfectly. Crucially, I can load filament from the external spool holder and print with zero issues.
The detailed error log mentions a “filament buffer signal abnormality.” Since the external spool works fine (bypassing the buffer), I’m almost certain the problem is the filament buffer or its sensor, not the extruder itself.
Has anyone experienced this specific failure where the AMS fails but the external spool works perfectly? Any advice on fixing the filament buffer sensor or other things to check in the AMS path would be a huge help!
You said it spools to the tool head, thru the buffer right? Aka no physical clogs in ptfe path? You’re probably right about the buffer
Double check connections, maybe ensure the sensor isnt visibly damaged/bent, but yeah. If it’s stuck screaming that “I see filament but no filament is moving” this is how it would behave. Maybe give it the ol compressed air and a rubber mallet? Check with support if you’re in a warranty period?
Yes, I even changed the tubes. There’s no visible problem on the sensor but I touched with naked hands at first while inspecting. I suppose there could be some oil left or short-circuit problem Idk. Shall I change the sensor? I cleaned everywhere as well and able to print with external spool.
I run into this quite allot. It’s usually a small peice of filament in or above the extruder. Make sure the switch(filament sensor) has a clean path. I usually remove the hotend and push and unclogging tool or a peice of filament down from the top. If it you can pass it all the way through. Reassemble and power cycle and see if it clears. I’ve had to do this mid print but it’s a pain.
In my case it was a tiny little piece of lint under the filament sensor circuit board. Somewhat wedged between the little silver arm and the plastic housing. It would slow down the movement of the spring which would be unexpected, and cause it to error out at seemingly “random”.
