AMS Maintenance Recommendations - PTFE Tube Replacement

AMS 2 Pro maintenance: a field report

Performed routine AMS 2 Pro maintenance today. Results were mixed, if by “mixed” you mean catastrophic.

What happened, in chronological order of suffering:

  • Filament broke in every single compartment and PTFE tube simultaneously, as if coordinated
  • Pulled out a feeder tube from the wrong side — there is no indication anywhere which side is correct, so congratulations to me
  • Feeder 3 now flashes orange more than it does not, which I choose to interpret as a personality trait
  • Dismantling the unit to investigate required the following tools, in this exact sequence: tweezers, Mason Pearson tweezers, hobby pliers, actual pliers — and still mangled every feeder cable on the mainboard

Post-incident discoveries:

  • PTFE tubes apparently require replacement every 2 months
  • The unit ships with 2 spare tubes
  • There are 4 feeders and 2 main lines to the printer
  • Nobody involved in this product decision will be hearing from my lawyer, but only because I’m too tired

Current status:

Replacement cables were ordered this morning on instinct, which in hindsight was a premonition. Returning to the store for PTFE tubes before the next maintenance round claims another victim. :mechanical_arm:
