i completed the first color; paused to change filament, but nothing is happening.
I manually inserted the filament all the way in but nothing.
control panel shows AMS.

Did you add the filaments when the printer and AMS were switched off?
I assume all your spools are from Bambu Lab. If not, you also need the manual section.
Automatic

Remove the three from the slots that do not know what is in there.

Confirm the printer is on, the AMS is connected and NO red lights near the AMS filament holes.

Then, add one spool and push the filament end into the slot hole.

Confirm the AMS goes through the detection process where the filament is pulled in, pushed out and back in again.

Add a second one, and check that Bambu Studio has spotted the new spool.
Manual
- Set the filament type and colour using the respective edit button.
I think all spools were put in with both items on. They ran thru pushing it in and back out before settling. All were fine i think.
Actually A3 is not showing up as an option for print anymore. It is grayed out, even tho filament is in the slot. pulled the filament all the way out, then in. No change.
Powered off and back up but it seems to have trouble with my 3 spool. The other 3 are fine. No obvious defects o 3.
Please provide an updated screenshot.
Also, are your filaments all from Bambu Lab?
No filament is from Bambu.
The other 3 spools go back and forth briefly, then go in an extended amount. But A3 simply goes in and out quickly, then nothing more. It doesn’t do the extended testing.
You have set the type and colour in slots 1, 2 & 4.
You need to do that, this is one part of why the swatch chooser shows a red exclamation mark.
Slot 3 is set up as PETG. Your model appears to use PLA, and PETG will be greyed out as you can’t choose PETG in the print window; you must do that in the Prepare tab.
The swatch chooser is looking at slots 1, 2 & 4, and you have not told it what they are, and you told slot 3 it is PETG, but told your model it needs PLA.
You can’t blame it.
Not sure I follow. Both 3 and 4 are set to pet-g. slot 4 does get recognized when I first turn on the machine. Even before there is anything set to print. So 3 and 4 are the same, yet only 4 shows/loads as it should. Why are the 2 different?
as for PLA vs PETG, i set each 1 of the 4 as I want them. Is there a master setting where you indicate the project is PLA or PET-G? I assumed by setting each slot before print, that will dictate how the print goes. I pick the star reel, and when it pauses I switch to another filament.

According to your own image, slots 1, 2 & 4 have nit been told which material or colour filament is in each one.

Again, from your own I age, you have set slot to contain PETG and assigned it grey.
These are what you have/haven’t set using the device tab for your AMS. Until you set these up correctly nothing will work as you expect.
I wonder if you are getting confused with the filament pool you define in the prepare for your model.
This has nothing to do with your AMS, these are you saying, I may use these materials and colours in my model and NOT in anyway related to your AMS which is configured in the Device tab.
These are two different things for two differ uses.
Assuming this is the confusion, go to the device tab and click the question marks on each of the four slots I highlighted with arrows.
Assign the as follows:
- Generic PLA White
- Generic PLA Black
- Generic PETG White
- Generic PETG Brown
These are guesses based on the clipped view from your screenshot, use your actual information.
Remember, the Prepare tab is about your model and the Device tab is about settings your devices, the print and the AMS.
Thanks for the feedback. Will likely work on it tomorrow. But the 1 questioon remains - why when I first turn the AMS on, all but the 3rd reel do the extended testing, where it goes in and out briefly, then feeds filament much deeper, likely close to the nozzle. The 3rd reel does not.

Ok, did what u said. Not sure why 3 has a green upper right angle. When I tested each 1, the third 1 did load and unload, unlike when I first turned it on.
Anyway, still an issue. See photos.
I suspect because at that point you had told the AMS what was in slot bred and so it didn’t need to see if there were any Bambu Lab filaments with RFID tags to scan.
You may notice that in your filament pool in the Prepare tab, the 3rd entry matches one of your Device tab AMS slots, thus the tick.
None of your other 3 slots, 1, 2 & 4 match the colours you set for your model to use in the Prepare tab.
While this is not an issue and will not stop anything, I am surprised you have t set the filament pool to match the filaments in your AMS.
What is still an issue?

To be fully clear, how is the starting filament chosen? And what action do you take to change to a different filament after a pause?

Thought I had it. Why are spools 3 and 4 not available? I want to use the third 1, PET G white. Is PLA as the choice somewhere not shown here?

You sliced the model for PLA. If you want to print them in PETG you need to reslice the model with PETG.
Mentioned a few times already, in a few different ways, each aimed to the context at the time.

Where is that set, the type of slice?
Go back to the prepare screen.
Right click your model with the mouse.
on the menu that pops up select change filament.
select your white PETG
Select the slice button in the upper left corner
select the print button in the upper left corner.
You should now be able to print with your PETG.
Sorry to say,Tried what u said. I did change the second filament from PLA to PET-G. Is that an issue? Note I took out A3. I is empty.
You got it, the print is now set for PETG. Press the send button and it will print with your PETG.
Why does A2 not offer as a PET-G option? I now have a PET-G instead of PLA in A2, but can’t print it.
