AMS not working after jam in P1S

I thought I had posted this a few days ago, but I can’t find it again, so maybe it never got posted!

I had a huge jam overnight, while printing PLA Basic in my P1S. I cleared out the jam, removing lots and lots of little filament pieces. I THINK I got everything cleared. Now I have two problems:

  1. The AMS 2 Pro will not advance any filament beyond the AMS itself. When putting filament in, it will advance just a little, but not outside of the AMS. I have looked many times for a piece of filament somewhere, but I can’t see anything. I had to take the buffer apart to clean out broken pieces, but that has been reinstalled also.

  2. It won’t feed filament into the extruder/hotend even from the external spool. I have replaced the complete hotend with a brand new one, but it still doesn’t work. Can the extruder above the hotend be clogged? If so, how do I clear it out?

This article is for the X1C but the P1S has the same extruder so it will be very similar.

I agree with Jon.

Did you remove the extruder? Are you sure you plugged the Filament Sensor in correctly?

I have not removed the extruder yet. That’s next.

I believe the filament sensor is plugged in correctly. It’s plugged in just like it was before the jam.

Ok–here’s to tearing everything apart……

I don’t think the hub in the bottom of the AMS 2 Pro is plugged. By holding down the stiff spring loaded release on the top of the hub, I can push filament all the way through, on all four spool locations. I wonder if it’s some electrical problem, but I don’t know where to start.

I just finished taking the AMS apart, removing the hub, and cleaning it out. There was nothing in the hub, but I blew it out with compressed air, reassembled, and still have the same problem: It won’t advance filament through the hub to the outside of the AMS itself.

I did not take the hub apart into the upper and lower sections. The wiki said not to do this if there was not a blockage. There isn’t a blockage, since I can feed filament through it by hand.

I took the extruder apart and found a piece of filament in it, of course! I cleaned everything out thoroughly, oiled as the wiki suggested, and put it all back together. It fixed my AMS problem! It was probably detecting that there was already filament in the extruder, so it wouldn’t feed any more.

BUT… now the filament goes out of the AMS, clear to the extruder (I can see it through the tube), and then retracts again. It does this four times before it times out with an error. For some reason it’s not going into the extruder and staying there. Any further ideas for this novice?

Did you plug the filament sensor back in when you reassembled it?

May need to be replaced.
