I’ve run into a strange issue with Tinkercad and Bambu Studio when I cut a hole in a thin square, then create a fill piece to match that hole. If the fill piece is straight (0°), Bambu Studio sees it as a separate shell. But if the fill piece is angled (e.g., 45°), the slicer merges it with the base—no longer allowing me to split or color them independently.
Steps to Reproduce
In Tinkercad, make a 1 mm‐thick square (~40×40 mm).
Place a rectangular “line” shape on top (e.g., 5 mm wide, 1 mm thick).
Convert that rectangle to a Hole and group with the square → creating a cutout.
Duplicate the same rectangle, switch it back to Solid → this becomes the “fill piece.”
Angle the rectangle to 45° (or any angle ≠ 0°).
Export both the base+hole group and the fill piece together as a single .STL.
Import into Bambu Studio.
Straight version: 2 separate shells (you can split/color them).
Angled version: the fill merges with the base → only 1 part in the slicer.
What I’m Seeing
Even though visually there’s a distinct inlay piece, Bambu Studio lumps it into one manifold for the angled version. The straight version is fine—it remains 2 parts.
Has anyone else encountered this with angled cutouts or fill shapes in Tinkercad → Bambu? I’d love to know if there’s a known trick or best practice to keep the inlay separate when angled.
I suspect that what you may be experiencing is an interpretation of solid vs hollow object. I’m struggling though with trying to conceptualize how this appears in the slicer. Can you upload the 3MF file as you have it laid out and also post a screen grab of the phenomena you are referring to both in the preview end the prepare screens as it was sliced. This will help take the guesswork out of what you’re describing.

These screen shots span TinkerCAD where you can see I’ve hidden the solid white line revealing the hole I cut for them which shows up as individual parts in Bambu Studio when I use the part button, but the part button is greyed out for the same piece with a diagonal solid part inside the hole. It’s as if the diagonal adjustment renders the hole and solid part as one piece instead of keeping them individual, so the resulting sliced part is a solid square with no stripe.
Shows both in Bambu Studio imported with the outline of the stripes, but only the straight part can be broken into parts.
And one more test removing the solid part, I see Bambu Studio imports the square with hole cutout just fine. It’s when the solid part which was copied from the hole is added the parts fuse into a square rather than the 2 part piece.
The Slicer is doing exactly what your telling it to do. In the first model, you have two parts in an assembly as indicated by the plus sign. So you’re getting two parts superimposed on one another. In the second example, you have a single part number where Tinkercad has exported that already includes the negative cutout. I am not familiar enough with TinkerCAD to speak to why it does this. Note that TinkerCAD only outputs mesh formats.
Here’s the part I cannot understand. Your example shows that he model on the left(4) is actually an assembly. This suggests that when you output the file it somehow preserved the fact that there were two objects.
Possible workaround.
Take this object and make it a negative model by right-clicking on it.
This for taking the time to review my situation and provide a potential work around.
As you note, the main confusion I have is to why this alignment change would result in Bambu seeing as a solid part when it should be 2 parts aligned as they were designed and exported from TinkerCAD.
I’m unclear if TinkerCAD is just not handling the angle so the cutout hole is technically touching the part and Bambu is seeing them as one, or if TinkerCAD is botching the export somehow.
When I export the same model from TinkerCAD as .obj Bambu Studio sees those as individual parts and the model prints as expected. So it seems there’s something with this seemingly straightforward use case where angling a solid and hole part results in them being fused in Bambu Studio (or upon export from TinkerCAD).
